Any chance Magic Rack is used at the US Open?

Anyone know? As mentioned by Jay (in pm) he didn't know, but stated [sic] they'd probably need to be a sponsor.

I'm confident it would speed up play considerably and get the players in bed by midnight. Last year some of the last players of a day were wrapping up @ 3 am or later.


If Magic Rack did get used there, what better venue could there be for exposure and acceptance?

I think there would be a good chance. I do not remember if there was an official rack of late, but other events have been using it. No bad feedback has been posted to my knowledge.

I think it is up to you to start the poll. I'll be looking to vote in favor of it.
 
Any chance? I'm gonna go with slim-to-none. It will either be the Diamond racks or Delta-13s. With the format being winner break/rack your own, the players who've put in time to learn the break are not going to want to give up that advantage considering with Magic Rack the wingball seems to go in no matter where you break from. The folks over at Magic Rack will need to put down some big coin to be sponsors before they'll consider using them.


If it were alternate break, there'd be a slightly better chance.
 
If you use the Magic Rack, you would need to rack high - nine on the spot - and probably add some breakbox rule to avoid the dead wingball.

In a winners break format the Magic Rack is not the way to go when the pros play 9ball.
 
I have the perfect solution and it prevents those boring break and runs.

Everyone gets a slug rack.
 
Use the European rule of 3 balls has to pass into the kitchen. Eliminate the soft break. Add tight pockets and do go with alternate break and 9ball will be fun again... :wink:

When did the US Open change to rack your own?

One complaint I heard about the Delta 13 rack was the noise it made. It seemed like you could hear balls banging against that rack almost continuously during each session.

My apologies, it is loser racks, must break from the box. I thought Donny & Shane were playing by US Open rules in their TAR match.

Delta-13's have inserts you can put in the rack that virtually eliminate the clangling noise.

That noise is easily and efficiently reduced by putting leather or foam inserts along each of the 3 outside sides of the Delta 13.

I recall SOOOO much wasted time at the Open racking. At any one time with 16 tables in play, you'd see perhaps a third of them racking. Often it took minutes, often times the refs would be called in to rack. One time last year a match stopped and the players waited @ 45 minutes for another table to open. They refused to play on table 7's brand new Diamond. It's NUTS!!!
 
They will use use the rack that puts up the most money and swear it's the best thing since sex...no matter how bad it is (the rack that is). Johnnyt
 
What happens when you get a tied up cluster in the area where you gotta move the rack? Or balls that barely go but they are on the rack area? Who moves/marks the balls to remove the rack? Couldnt a person tie up/untie up balls in the rack on purpose? I have only seen it used once and it came up about every third game that at least one ball needed to be picked up to move the rack.

I serioulsy dont know the rules on this.
