Most Under Rated Cue Maker

What cuemaker do you feel is flying under the radar? As far as quality, fit, finish, point work, price, etc. Which cuemaker gives you the best bang for your buck so to speak. Lets see what people come up with. Thanks for your input.
Jeff

Joe Baker!!!

great cues, great attention to detail. very underrated in my opinion.

look him up JB cues:thumbup:

blind cue tests

Sheldon Lebow

Greg Hearn

Chuck Starkey

all make or have made in the case of Greg great hitters

The first one that comes to mind is Terry McFadden.
Terry built cues for years in his pool hall here in Denver for local players, but when he teamed up with Ernie Martinez his abilities really took off.
He has since sold his pool hall, moved to Arizona, and is now a full time cue builder.
McFadden cues have a nice crisp solid hit, and he is a great guy to deal with.
I think he is underrated and underpriced.

Actually he is a full time fisherman for about another month....;)

I was surprised to see Terry listed on here...NOBODY seems to know about him.....He had a prototype jump break cue in Kolbys one time that I tried out...it was the nuts for both jumping and breaking....I asked him to make me one and so far everyone that has tried it has liked it.....but had no idea who Terry Mcfadden is.

Bryan Mordt is a name that is known througout the country...world...but is still underatted IMO...His cues hit and feel as good as any out there...and he has a nack for picking the best most unique peices of wood.....yet you can still get a very nice cue for way under a grand.

i would like to vote for several...two of the three have been said....joe c makes a great cue at a good price.....jim buss really nice cues hit unreal and great craftsmanship......and last but not least......toeboy his cues are normally not real fancy and not overly flash but they play lights out....i am on his list for two

I wouldn't call Jim Buss underrated! I believe he's pretty well know and very highly respected! He's one of the few cuemakers chosen to display a cue at the Smithsonian. Travis from Blackcreek is also getting a pretty good name out there already. Not to nit pick but these guys IMHO have received recognition for their work. I don't blame people for plugging them, but I thought this thread was about cuemakers who haven't received such recognition.

What about our very own AZB cuemakers; Flyingsnail, JoeyInCali, & manwon. I have never had nor shot with any of there cues before but have seen a lot of azers talk & praise there work alot. I thought they should be mentioned.

I have had couple of JoeyInCali sneaky conversions I know they hit a like mac truck. Thats why I'm getting a custom cue off of him.

Joey's cues are great. Have had two of them, and liked them both. Have another coming this year.

Ask zeek about them, he has the two I ordered new.

I hit with about 6 Pete Tonkin cues that a dealer friend of mine had in Japan, and I was blown away with construction, playability, and the nice hit they all had.
Very suprised to see how affordable his cues are today.
Also, Keith Josey and Andy Gilbert aren't exactly under the radar cue makers by any means. But I find myself amazed at how affordable their cues are compared to what you can pay other makers works.

I'm not sure how people define underrated. I'll add to the list a cue I got for $140 recently in the for sale forum, a Madison Bob. It is a converted house cue, uneven points and not much to look at but long pro taper, radial pin, 19" balance point, plays solid.

I'm not ready to sell my Schon yet but I like the Madison Bob plays. The last I heard he was not feeling well and had stopped making cues. Don't know if that is right or not but based on what I paid for this cue I would say he is underrated.

Gotta nominate Steve Kornele, studied under Verl Horn,he makes a great playing cue
and is one of the nicest guys to deal with!

I don't know how he's rated, but out here on the West Coast the guy who I've seen come along to the point of making very impressive cues is Ariel Carmeli. His quality and attention to detail is more and more impressive each year.
