Texas open champ!!!!

In a two set final from what I understand. Boy, both those guys must have been dragging by the end. What time did it end? The final didn't start until after midnight sometime. It probably would have gone through breakfast today if the scores had been closer than something like 9-1 and 9-3. :grin-square:

those guys were so so tired for their last few matchs why not atleased play the finals the next day whats 1 more day let the guys play the finals when they are fresh and rested
 
The fact that they had to play that late is a shame...they should have played more matches on Saturday and Sunday and only brought back the top 16 or 24 on Monday. I think that it only paid 24 places and they brought back 32 players. Everyone knows that matches take longer as the stakes on each match are bigger....just my 2 cents

I get what you are saying but logistically it may pose some problems. The stream guys (free stream BTW) might have to be at work the next day or have other plans/commitments, and then the room owner has to devote that space to the match rather than be open again for normal business.

I suppose part of the process of determining a champion is who can endure the long grueling schedule, which includes having something left in the tank if you make it that far.
 
It wouldn't be so grueling if players would get to play more than one or two matches in a day,and then have to play eight matches the final day. maybe after another 37 tournaments,they will figure out a way to balance the play.

I ran the Texas State 9 Ball Championships for the previous six yrs. before this year's event. I retired from tournament directing at the end of last year's event.

For the six years I ran it, there were 11 tables available for play. They would remove 3 tables each time for grand stands for spectators. With a field of over 150 players (men's and ladies divisions), it was a nightmare timewise with the men's being a race to 9 and the ladies' being a race to 7 on both sides with so few tables.

I would start play at 9 a.m. each day with the last rounds going off around midnight.

I did not attend this year's event but I heard they had 13 or 14 tables available for tourney play.

One of my fond memories of running the tourney was at the end of it, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, I felt like I had been shot at and missed and s**t at and hit. LOL

Congrats to Hillbilly. I know he's wanted this title for a long time.

If I recall, it ended somewhere around the 6am mark. I watched the last few matches all the way through and there were still 100+ viewers by the end of the finals. Congratulations to Charlie! I know he's been really wanting this title!
 
they just need to bring back 16 players on monday that's all.Run the tourney shotgun style sat. and sun.,then have set rounds for monday's play.
