When Did it Come to This?

Yes, I did...I thought it about it briefly once you called me out on it...felt that perhaps I could have worded it differently, and posted an apology shortly thereafter...however, while in your fervor to discredit me by quoting my posts in this thread, you conveniently failed to to quote that post as well. In fact, for one who is so quick on the button, you seemingly missed commenting on that one altogether...which begs the question...just what exactly is your intent in this thread?

Lisa
Wow, you sound a lot like JAM...LOL

Sticks and stones people....

Why do people take so much offense to words written by a person or people that they most likely will never meet in their life? Life is too short. Now if it is someone you know in person and consider a friend, or even an acquaintance that you respect, you might have reason to have beef or show emotion in responses. If it is someone you don't know or will ever know then just ignore them. The more you post, the more they will post eventually leading to an attack. You will create one thread, they will create another thread in retaliation. This isn't directed to the OP either, but people in general....human nature I guess.

Maybe it is just me, but if Az member "randomscreenname" calls me this, or says that about me why should I care??? Do I have an internet rep to uphold (even though rep can be fun to give and receive)? I know it is fun to sometimes get in debates, or voice opinions....but man some people take this stuff really personal, but maybe they should....I don't know. I never will. I hope it all gets resolved in a peaceful manner, preferably via PMs or a phone call.

I see your point, and what you say makes perfect sense. :)

Some of these forum member *do* know each other, though, and that may be why feelings get crushed or anger raises its ugly head from time to time.

I'll tell you how it can affect people. We were invited to a pool function in Texas in a few months. Now I absolutely don't want to go and hang out in Texas at a pool function. No, thank you. I'd rather stay home and work.

Some people think it's funny to hurt other people or make them angry on a forum. It's not only contained to AzBilliards. It happens in other forums, too. When you meet some AzBilliards people in person, they may not be at all like their forum personality. Usually, the people I have met in person from this forum are all good pool peeps.

This is a good point you bring up about meeting an Azer and their personality different than their online personality so to speak. When you say they do know each other are you referring to they met 1 time in Vegas, or a match or two people that hang out constantly? Just remember friends come and go, regardless if this person is or was your friend. Gotta have that thick skin... Just because someone meets another person from here doesn't mean they KNOW them....something to think about and remember. Like I said hopefully it works out in a peaceful manner. That sucks you do not want to go back to that function in Texas, but maybe it's for the best and will make you a happier/better person for not attending.

many , many of the posters on here do have a "rep" to uphold , because this is where they do business , and random attacks on their reputations may affect their future sales .
Be careful what you say about "Randomscrenename" , he may have powerful fiends. ( no , I didn't mean friends)

Unbelievable! This thread has now gone to arguing and I only read the first page. This is why my own participation has dropped considerably from what it has been the past four years.
And Lisa is spot on, it's hard not to argue with some of the crap spewed here every day about everything about pool, let along the npr section.

Some of the people from this forum hang out together, drink together, party together, stay up all night together at various pool happenings, sweat matches together, et cetera.

The week-long U.S. Open and DCC is one example. The Super Billiards Expo is another. Usually, the social activities at these pool happenings are fun for all involved.

When one person is singled out, it may be hurtful for several other forum members to write untoward words about them on a public forum for all to read. Sometimes a gang mentality forms, and it's a free-for-all of bashing this one person. I'm not saying that happened on this thread, but I have seen it happen on other threads. Again, it's not contained to AzBilliards; it happens on all forums. This is forum culture.

I'm starting to come to realize why pro players, industry members, and well-known pool pros don't hang out on forums as a general rule. It's kind of like becoming too friendly with your neighbor. It can turn around and bite you in the butt, and you're stuck with them as a neighbor. If your neighbor doesn't know that much about you, well, you both can live in harmony, wave to each other and be friendly.

Well, I share this neighbor analogy in an effort to explain how this forum can affect a person's emotional being. If a person is known to other forum members and one or more of them gang up and bash them on a public forum, in front of their friends -- members they have met and parties with, members they will see again on the tournament trail -- it can be devastating and hurtful. Yeah, you're supposed to have a thick skin, but it still hurts. Some people can withstand pain better than others, and some people choose to not participate anymore, removing themselves from the forum.

I was trying to sell my Ray Schuler cue. And I was wondering why no one was looking at my post... Well because everyone is here. After 30 years of playing this game, I can't shoot, I just learned yesterday that a 9ft table is really only 100 inches long and I know absolutely nothing about the game of pool. I met Ray Schuler in Palatine, IL where I bought a stick from him. I was look'n for a Rambo. Someone told me a TS sneaky pete was a good Rambo imitation, which I bought.

Ray quickly pointed out it was far from it. Any way he spent about 1 hour with me. He (and his wife for that matter) were very kind to people who weren't too bright. His wife Cathy was a real sweet heart. I just joined this forum... All I an say is I love to righteously flame people. Too bad I don't know anything about pool.

Let the flames begin!

Jam ,
Go . To. The. Pool. Function.
It's a function . It will be fun . It's in the name F U N ction .
And its about pool . Pool function , remember ?
There will be other people there besides the AzBers in question .
Have a good time . Meet other pool people . Tell them about the forums , not everyone knows . . .

Yes , we enjoy making each other angry on NPR .
But it's mostly in fun . Mostly.
Except for MrPink , that cheapazznotippin . . . . ooops . wrong forum
and when I put the mouse down , it's over .

I think this is an argument about freedom of speech. I for one am all about freedom of anything as long as it doesn't physically hurt anyone, steal from anyone, or fraud anyone. We cant live in a protectionist bubble and try not to offend people. Everyone is responsible for their own feelings. Lisa is right to express her opinion as well as everyone else as long as the moderators allow it. Let the mods do their job. I will not attend a forum where people tell others what to say. AZ billiards is a fun forum. We are a bunch of pool players. If you don't like the threads, don't read them and contribute the material that you do want to see on here. Your not entitled for people to add material that you enjoy. that is your responsibility.

I for one think AZB is super awesome and really enjoy interacting with all the people that come here. Keep up the good work AZ!

I understand that of course, and legal action (while it should be a last resort) is a resolution if that is a concern. At the same time if this is the case then they should not get into bickering matches online unless they have to. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to speak their mind of course as they should. Pick your battles. Some of these battles like this one that has brewed doesn't seem worth it. People run this risk of their rep and their business when joining and participating in a forum. Fortunately there are checks on that like the iTrader when used appropriately, as well as the transaction thread etc. If someone really is concerned about their rep and business, they should only be conducting business and doing things to expand that...not get into repeated arguments that nothing good comes from it. Without listing examples it seems most of the arguments are not business related so I think they can be avoided....maybe not. Once again, it's a public forum so it is what it is.

I see what you are saying, and people believing everything they read on the internet is well...don't need to answer that one. As for the friends on the forums hanging out and drinking etc at tournaments, do they stop doing so because one person attacks you or anyone else on here? If they do they may not really be your friend to begin with.

Arguments on AZB are a like a sinusoid. It ebbs and flows it's ugly head every now and then.

Then we get threads like this.

The arguments are nothing new - just sometimes we are at the top of the sinusoidal wave and sometimes not.

Thank god....the voice of understanding. Yes I too get cranky and argumentative when my head is stuffy. I try to avoid the ugly head part though....I take Tylenol Sinus Allergy....works wonders.
