I had a tape of Jimmy playing in and winning a big 9 ball tournament back when. I think it was accustats. I seem to recall he wore shades in the post interview to avoid being recognized.

He was a movie-star handsome guy. He plays very nice, velverty smooth game. Even back then he kicked very well, before kicking became a big part of the game.

I put my VHS tapes out to pasture - probably in the garage somewhere or in the trash.

I met Jimmy Mataya one time with his wife Eva.
Both were wonderful persons-and he really answered any question i had (she also, what a beautiful woman :p). This was decades ago....still remember it like yesterday. All my *heros* from USA were around...it was hard to check out that time *who would be my next interview victim* :p
And he played very well ofc.

I love Jimmy Mataya!! A true character in our sport. I got to meet him once and he was very cool. I was going to watch Jason Kirkwood play in an IPT qualifier down in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and I heard Jimmy was going to be playing in it also, so I brought one of my pool magazines that had a nice article about him in it so he could sign it for me. He showed up in a sweet Corvette looking very slick and stylishly dressed. He was fun to watch even though his best days are behind him. He seemed genuinely touched about me asking for his autograph.

Video recordings were not used as often in Jimmy's era as they are today. The technology has improved for sure, allowing quite a few pool recordings today.

Here's a little fun diddy of Danny Medina and Jimmy Mataya on the topic of hustling: The Hustle.

It's kind of old and the music sucks, but it is a YouTube with Jimmy in it. :)

Here's a commercial from 1989 with a brief snippet of Jimmy: Learn From the Best.

In the '70s and '80s, when these two players were hitting 'em and in their peak, I can count on one hand how many recordings exist today. Player from California on the left and Jimmy "Pretty Boy Floyd" Mataya on the right.

I ran into him 4 months ago in a night club and shared a drink. He was not displaying that quick wittedness & 'spunk' he once did in the past.

theres a funny clip on one of the accu stats bloopers videos where he broke didnt make a ball and proceeded to run out lol

JAM,
I never saw that clip of Jim & Danny, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it! Thanks much for bird-dogging it out to us!

Glad you enjoyed it, Terry. :)

I *am* just an ol' bird dog when it comes to pool smut!
