Yea, it was a SWEET 102 and the shot was questionable, BUT....MIKA should have called in the ref...

Sigel still got it!!!

oh yea, and Charlie Williams lost too.....DOH!

and Mika walked out at 99 not shaking hands....even though the shot may have been close.....DUDE, show some sportsmanship! and shake hands.....Sigel is a LEGEND......respect

That controversial shot looked like a foul to me. I think because Mika had just called a ref, he didnt want to again so soon. It would have looked like a shark if mike had hit it well.

Secondly-Sigel is dating Megan Smith? If I had known she liked old codgers, Idda given her an offer im sure she'd refuse!

I hear you!....no wonder Mike is playing like a kid....his girl is keepin him young!

all things considered......dont walk out like a tool....shake hands and go to the next match!

it may have been questionable, but danny diliberto saying it was a foul doesn't make it one. sigel even said something during his run about being able to hear him. what do you call it if the commentator is sharking?

Can someone please elaborate on the shot in question?

What was the score?
What was the layout (cue table diagram maybe?)
Why did Mike not admit to the foul if it was obvious, or rather, did he just play it out as if nothing happened??
Why did Mika not call in the ref?

If Mike fouled and knew it I wouldn't shake his hand either. Hope it's on video sometime. Johnnyt

i think the score was 100 to 9. Sigel took 2 fouls to start with, so he ran 102. Mike was very close to the object, and Mika (and Diliberto) thought he grazed the white with his ferrule after hitting the ball. The camera wasn't close enough to really see, and when Mika asked him if it was a foul, Sigel said somehting like "we could have this conversation for 800 years" and just kept potting balls. Mika looked like he wanted to KILL him! Sorry i have no grid to show...

Under normal circumstances, I'd say failure to shake a guys hand is poor sportsmanship, but it sounds to me like it could go either way on this one.

I mean, if Mike fouled....he was the poor sportsman here. If not, then it's Mika. Either way, why would he say that in response to Mika's inquiry? Seems rather rude.

Why did Mika not call in the ref?

The CB and OB were close (less than an inch i THINK) and Mike had to shoot it straight on to make the OB in the side. The CB followed about 6 inches and Danny said it was a foul (double hit/push) and the other commentator said it sounded like a foul. Ive found that straight pool players are less likely to think foul than 9 ball players on shots like that. Im sure mike thought it was good.

As i said earlier, Mika had just called the ref on another shot and i think he was reluctant to ask for one again so soon.

(i think the poster above is incorrect on what he thought the foul was but i m not infallible myself) Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I think he just meant there are always debates on what constitutes a bad hit on a close OB CB shot like that. Mika didnt ask him about it til 3 or 4 shots later. He stewed for a while probably hanging himself for not calling the ref.

I will defer to nostroke as to what the foul actually was. And Mike's "800 year" response was not defensive or argumentative. I think Mika was just angry at himself for not calling a ref. I was kinda wishing Mike would miss toward the end just to give him another chance, but he was in stroke. I don't think he would've fouled and then not admitted it.

Thanks for the info guys. It sure sounds like a foul, but who knows. Either way, congrats to Mike for a solid match.

If there is a ref, USE THEM.

If it was a questionable shot where a ref SHOULD have been called, then it is Mika's responsibility to get the ref to call it.

Unless they are using instant replay like they have used in the past on Accu Stats to determine if a shot was a foul or not, call goes to the shooter on close hits.

Can't say i have a favorite in this match, as i love to root against them both, but since Mika was the crybaby in this instance, when Mika asked if it was a foul, and Mike kept shooting, personally, i would have liked to see Mike whip out a pocket pack of Kleenex after Mika stewed for a little bit, and ask Mika "You want some tissues?", and toss the pack at him.

If the scenario was the same and the rolls were reversed, i would have liked Mika to do the EXACT same thing, and toss tissues at Mike if Mike couldn't deal with it.

Only difference is that if Mika shot the questionable shot and Mike thought it was a foul, Mike would have kept talking to everyone for another 15 minutes about it.

I personally believe, even if your opponent displays bad sportsmanship you should not stoop to their level or below. Regardless of the call, thats pretty poor.

lol

I find it really hard to believe that any of you would remain calm and collected if you honestly felt your opponent fouled and refused to admit it.

Don't get me wrong. Mika can act like a baby sometimes, there's no denying that. But to pretend that you'd all be immune to drama under such circumstances is ridiculous. Hell, most of you can't even remain drama free on the forum, let alone while faced with such a situation during a World Championship. lol

Some of us would have called the ref and avoided the drama on a bad hit call.
If there was drama AFTER the ref called the hit, to me, that's grounds for an immediate forfeit of the match. Either shut your pie hole and continue playing, or wait for your next match cause this one is over.

Foul! But not if ref. ain't watchin'.

Immonen got what was coming on that shot for not calling the referee back to the table again! IMO
Jimmy Mataya loves to quote an old W.C.Fields line when asked about his infamous phantom 5-ball break, goes like this,"anything worth winning, is worth cheating at!" LOL!!!
Sigel must adhere to that philosophy, too! It "WAS" a foul!
