$5,000 1st Place Amateur Event ( Good or Bad) ???

As a player, do you think this is a good or bad format?

The entry fee is definitely on the high side but compared to most amateur regional tour events you would have to play in 5 different events, paying 5 different entry fees + tour card fees and paying expenses to go to those 5 different events and have to win all 5 of said events just to win what you could win at this one event.

I estimate that it would cost about $250 to $300 for entry fees + another $350 to $400 in hotels and gas + another $200 in expenses to go to 5 different amateur tour events. That is over $800 in expenses versus the $220 entry fee + 1 night lodging + $50 for food and meals (total about $310) for this 1 event. So in a comparison like that, I think it is a really sweet deal.

Winning $5,000 at one time could change someones life. Especially an Amateur player.

IMO, I like the event. What do you think?

Do you have any ideas on how it could be better and if you do not like the format, why ?

I think it's a great idea.
I hope you get enough interest to have at least 1 a month, more if you want to work that hard.
Be careful though , a lot of people think tournaments always lose money.

Sadly but true !

the more money that is offered for amateur events the more the semi-pro/hustlers will come out trying to beat the system...Idea is great but it is what it is.

Troy,

This is spot on. First place in my amateur monthly was routinely 1800-2500for a one day event.

The hustlers and road players were always trying to sneak in.

An event like this one would require a diligent qualification enforcment to be successful, imo.

I guess Im an idiot but where is this event being held?

btw....the format seems fine to me, and yes like said above.....keeping the killers out of the henhouse is always a chore.

I personally have never been a fan of single elim. Otherwise it sounds like a great event.

The ineligibility criteria seems pretty weak to me, so the last bullet point, the "TD Discretion" one, will need to be leaned on pretty strong. Else, IMO, the liklihood of a successful recurring tourney is diminished. I wouldn't want to drop $220 only to see a handful of killers who play head and shoulders above the field.

If you can successfully and fairly weed out super skilled players, that will become evident to your target market, and they'll come back for more. It's a tough chore and I suspect you'll seek out input from tourney directors who have successfully skinned this kat before.

Best of luck moving forward. I hope it works well for all involved!

The criteria for the Amateur event is exactly as it was for the former Viking Tour and they never had a problem with enforcing it.

As I understand it, the Ozone Tour collects information on player stats as reported by all online sources and published magazines. From what I have seen it looks like the stats on the AZB player finder but is much more comprehensive because it is a combination of all sources available.

Currently the Ozone Tour has two different categories for amateur players just as the Viking tour did. On the Viking Tour they were called "Amateur" and "Amateur-Advanced". On the Ozone tour they are call "Beginning Amateur" and "Amateur". Below are the qualifications for each of those on the Ozone Tour.

New Ozone Billiards "Beginning Amateur" Qualification Rules - Who Can and Can't Play
As of October 1st, 2010 the Ozone Billiards "Beginning Amateur" 9-Ball Tour has set new eligibility/disqualification rules for all players wishing to participate in the events.
