Bought a Gold Crown II. Where do I go from here?

At least I think its a Gold Crown II. What years were GCII produced?

I have some questions as to what I should do with the table. Its setup right now and plays nicely. However there is some fit issues with the aprons and corner pieces. The table has a pretty fair amount of wear and tear with the furniture aspect of it..

Hopefully some here can help me with this list.

1. Full table restoration? Would it be worth the investment? The top rails are all dinged and dented up. Really doesn't affect the game play at all but its a far cry from a nice piece of furniture. Can the top rails actually be restored? The legs and aprons are rough aesthetically but are solid. The ball holder has fit issues and the dials are basically broken. Corner pieces show wear but are salvageable.

2. Approximate cost of full table restoration? Who does this type of work? Do they pick up or would I have to arrange for transfer? What kind of value would I have after a full restoration?

Good thing is the table plays great. Cushions are new.

I'd really like to bring this table back to life one way or another.

Thanks for any advice.

She's fixable I think most parts you can get at ..... http://www.classicbilliards.net/html/gold_crown_medalist_parts.cfm

Take some picture of the underneath or do you have any while it was apart? this way we can tell what small parts and main parts you have looks like you're missing a few parts to many so the ran screws with aluminium parts would have been. Rails look like its been a pool hall table its whole life but very fixable with the right person on it and it meets your budget.

For rails to rebuilt 100% Realkingcobra on the road or Sdbilliards out of south California.

Apron parts above link should get you most of it back together with out to much help if you need it Cuephoric should only be a few hours away I taught him alot about Gold Crowns.

Here are some additional pictures.

I really don't know what to set my budget at because I don't have any realistic idea on cost.

If its 800 bucks to have a good mechanic out and he can address all the fit issues and install some fresh parts for me, rubber, fresh cloth etc etc vs. 6k for a full restoration I'd rather spend the 800 or grand and have a lights out table that's just aesthetically seen its better days.

But if we're talking 2k for a good mechanic to work over the table or 4k for a full restoration I'd probably see my way to the full restoration.

Where should my expectation be?

Last tech to install this table had his work cut out for him. I think this would be a good project for Glen since he has more tools then most. You should pm him see what he wants and when he might be in your area. If not maybe ship rails to Glen or SD billiards, local person should be able to finish the rest of the table.

Some of the parts I originally thought were missing are still there just not lined up right.

As for price its hard say but glad your not gun shy on a full rebuild it would be worth it but so would a new Diamond table as an option..I was going to show you some photo's of missing parts but cant login to photo bucket right now.

Not interested in a snooker table.

The pictures show the worst of the worst. Yeah the table needs attention but overall I'm happy I made the purchase. I'm sure I could have founds something a little nicer or a lot nicer but it wouldn't have been local and it would have cost me a ton to get it shipped. At which point I would still have it reworked, tighten the pockets, new rubber and so on and so forth. Overall I'd rather have a reasonably priced project that I can bring back vs. something slightly nicer that cost more and still needs attention. Everyone who's been over to play has loved the table. Shortcomings and all.

Sent a PM to realkingcobra. With fingers crossed.

I can't seem to find a reputable furniture restorer here in town. I might need to look at San Antonio for the rails and aprons to be restored?

Unless any one feels like a full restoration in its entirety would be a viable solution. Still don't know who does that type of work? and cost?

My bad - I guess I have snooker on the brain.

Thanks RKC for keeping me straight!

There are a couple of more functional GC's on the Houston Craigs List but if it was gotten for a real good price you can afford to sink a lot of $ in it.

Shane/Cuephoric just set up my Brunswick here in Dallas.....same issues you have.....table had been rode hard and put up wet......I was not interested in a refinish, just for new felt on the rails and bed, and install.....he did a LOT of work to get the table to level......if Glen isn't in the area, Shane lives up here in the Dallas area.....also, he did a table in Houston in the last month, so I know he gets down there...

Shoot Cuephoric a PM, Shane will get back to you....or PM me for his number....

I tried to PM him but his storage capacity is full.

I'll try him later. I'm willing to listen to anybody that could help.

Shane "cuephoric" is based out of texas and travels working on tables all over the U.S...
He is a top notch mechanic that you can contact to get a honest option in person on one of his travels...
-i chatted with shane earlier today'. Look him up in the pool table mechanics directory at the top of talk to a mechanic section'. Its a sticky post'
