Skip & Jan's Billiards is getting all the 9ft's rebuilt.

This is the kind of damage from other table mechanics in the past that Zach is having to fix in order to get these tables back in to good playing condition...but, because this kind of work is needed to be performed...that's also the opportunity that Zach needs to take advantage of to also modify the tables to play like "todays" Diamonds play like what was used in the US Open:grin:

Talk a look at this...then you'll know why the tables played so bad at Skip & Jan's, it wasn't because of their lack of trying to make their tables better...it's because of the lack of knowledge in the AZ table mechanics that these tables turned out so bad in the past....which is why pretty much everyone stopped going there.

But...as been said before...the "Dead shall rise again"...and Zach, being the "Reverend"....will perform an exorcism on all these tables and force the Devil out of them to be once again....GREAT PLAYING TABLES!
Which by the way...Zach IS an ordained minister:grin:..so he does have the skills needed to force the Devil out of these tables:rotflmao1:

I am patiently waiting for them to get done so I can check them out, really curious about how the Gold Crown's will play. Is Zach doing the Diamonds all first and then moving onto the Gold Crowns? Also how long until the Diamond bar tables arrive? I am curious if the DCT will hold some events there if Skip & Jan's is willing to have them.

Well hopefully someday, someone will open a Pool Room/Sports Bar on the WEST SIDE of the Valley of the Sun, like Skip & Jan's. As Surprise, Whitman , and the WEST VALLEY is the AREA of Maricopa County with the most recent growth. Think if this RECESSION EVER END it would be a prime area for such a venture. JMHO:grin:

No...that's the Diamonds rails...Zach hasn't even gotten into the GC's yet...and they're even worse than the Diamonds are:eek:

Well...I can't imagine them being any worse or mis-mached than mine were...

I still can't belive how dead nuts accurate the final demensions are....41/2" at the pocket points and dead nuts on 50" x 100" playing field......oh...and the nose height of the cushion......yeah..perfect and matched all the way around the table.

I just can't see it getting any better than that.

Lenny, you are more than welcome to come by my place if you want to try it out....I am about a 1/2 hour drive from Kolbys (non rush hour)

I can guarantee you will be impressed.

Which side of town are you on? I would like to check it out sometime for sure.

The Gold Crown's will play identical to the Diamonds:grin: as the craftsmanship is exactly the same...kind of like two identical new Shelby GT 500's...only difference is one is black...and one is red:grin: but out of respect for Diamond...the Diamonds will be rebuilt first, then the remaining 5 Gold Crown 3's;)

The purchase order is in with Diamond on the 12 7ft Smart Tables already, but...I'm not installing them until I first see all the 9fts in use on a Fri/Sat night;)...so as to the when...that's up to the customers that are willing to support Skip & Jan's. Yes, Natalie would support the DCT in a heart beat, just as soon as she sees that she invested her money wisely in having all of her tables rebuilt to support the pool playing customers that really DO appreciate playing on the best playing tables in AZ;)...believe me...as the old saying goes...Natalie's posted up...it's the customers turn to post up...and when both sides are posted...we'll take the next step:grin:

Well said, I do think that they will do fine, even though the equipment was not great it still would have people in there packed on the weekends and league nights. I am sure this will draw many players there to play and hopefully some tournament events. I wish Natalie the best on her investment and I think it will do well.

Congrats on the renovating of this place! I look forward to playing here on my many visits to the southwest!

IMHO, keep half of the Eagle 7 footers (redone, of course with new felt and cushions) and replace the other half with Diamondsmart bar boxes. Shim one of each table. That way, you can reserve the Diamond tables for the people that are more than rec players.

It's also more cost-efficient and will benefit everybody in the long run.

So, bottom line...an old but new place to play on 9ft tables...that no other room in AZ can match...when it comes to being exactly the same in the way they play. I'd challenge any other room owner in AZ to have 12 better playing...or even tied in the play ability of these 12 tables....but somehow I don't think I'd get any takers on a bet;)

Once they're done with the 9ft's...then it's what to do with the 12 Eagle 7ft bar tables. What do you people think....should Natalie get rid of them and replace them all with Diamond 7ft Smart Tables?...Would anyone show up to play on them?

This is your area...some feed back would be nice...as this is a very expensive turn around for her;)

Skip & Jan's Billiards

Full bar, great...and I mean GREAT food, off track betting, outside smoking area...WITH SERVICE:grin: and a huge parking lot.

I hear what you're saying, but I kind of have a problem with that, and my problem is...I don't feel it's fair to treat customers with less than "pool players skills" as if they're not "good enough" to play on the "better" equipment in the house;)...it's the cloth on the tables that wears out...not the tables, and "them" customers deserve to play on any tables in the house...if they're paying to do so, no different than anyone else...as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have a room full of "bangers" then an empty house full of "pool players" who for the most part...only show up to play in tournaments...then like ghosts...dissapear right afterward. Don't get me wrong, a pool room needs pool players too, but it takes the bangers to pay the bills to keep the doors open...so the "pool players" have a house to come into...for the tournaments. I'd much rather say....well, they wore out the cloth on another table...so, Zach...change it, make it look new again...as opposed to telling a customer...OK now...YOU...have to go play on the shit tables....because you're a "banger". So...if the "pool players" want a special table to play on....I'd suggest they rent it longer than anyone else does...that way...it's always being played on by...."pool players"

Glen;)

I really hope this works out for skip and jans. I know they are spending lots of money to get this done. I will do my best to support them.

One of the biggest problems i see is that the main players out of this bar are a ton of players that don't know the difference between a diamond and a dynamo table, and really would care less. If I was a pool hall owner that's the way i would keep it. these players spend more money on alcohol and normally have jobs.

It will be real interesting to see what happens when the pool rate more then triples from 3 to ten and hour. i think it will work but it's still a gamble. in that area, i can think of 6 places within 15 min that have 10 or more pool tables.

lets be real honest. I know one pool hall owner in Az who got all new diamonds and thought that was the answer. and in six months he was out of business...........

Did you understand how the rates work? All money spent on food and drinks goes against the table time....as a credit....meening spend more than the table time and it's free.

Diamond tables alone is no guarantee of sucess...it still takes more than just tables to make a place work.

So true, as one place that had Diamond in the Valley Shut Down, and another one is too much of a BAR with the wrong kind of clients to be much of a Pool PLACE!

Think the Skip & Jan's idea of $10.00/Hr may make it a Pool Players place? But time will tell if the plan works.

A Pool Players place....and a place to go play pool...are two different things, as the Phoenix area has places for POOL PLAYERS to go...I'm targeting all THOSE that want to play pool on the best equipment, great food, great bar, off track betting...what do they call that...OH yeah....a SPORTS BAR:grin:...with all the big screen TV's to boot. The only deterrent to the $10.00 per hour per table is going to be to the players that just want to come and shoot pool on the best equipment in the state...but be able to pay the same price that they pay in other spots....because they don't want to spend a dime on anything else. As I've said, there's plenty of other areas around that support that kind of spending....or lack of it;)

Once Skip & Jan's is finished up, they'll be on a 2 table a month maintenance plan...which means...two tables a month get the cloth changed...it's the something as recovering all 24 tables once a year...only this way...there's no huge bill due at one time...on tables that have been over due to have the cloth changed.

Not all tables need the cloth changed every year....depends on the amount of play...yet on the flip side of the coin....the most used tables...might need to have the cloth changed 2...maybe even 3 times a year....and that's where most pool rooms fail...because their tables start looking and playing like shit....before they actually do something about it, to prove my point...just look at the tables you're already playing on in the pool rooms around town...as I've already been to most of them...before I decided to fix up the tables at Skip & Jan's:grin:

Some people may not be "pool players"...but believe me...they know what newer equipment looks like....so they can tell the difference:grin:

Glen

Just so people know for sure that Skip & Jan's is going to fix up ALL the tables in the house, these are some pictures of the second table being finished up. So, now there's TWO Simonis Tour Blue tables in da house...and still more to come:grin:
