Do you still need to obtain an entrance visa in advance to enter China? I have come via Hong Kong in the past to Guangzhou and without a visa I could not get in to China. I was required to obtain the visa in the USA a few weeks prior to departing on my trip. Is that still the case? Or can you fly directly to Guangzhou and obtain a visa at the airport and be admitted into the country.

Jay, it takes about 4-5 days to get a single or double entry visa into China. They're relatively lenient. I've never tried to enter China without a visa, the airline probably won't even let you check-in or board the plane without one.

Jay,

I have been to China many times and you will need a visa for sure.
Best if you get in the US before you leave.
I am sure there is a visa service in LA. Cost about 80.00usd.
If you wait until you get to HK it will cost more.
You can also go to the Chinese Embassy in LA. Cheaper.

Bill

You definitely need a visa to enter China, even if you are coming via HK. They have customs between HK and China, where you will need your visa both when you enter China, and when you leave it.
