Diamond Table with pro-cut pockets in humidity?

Does anyone have a Diamond with pro-cut pockets or play on one that is in humid conditions (55% and over)? Does it play a lot harder than when the humidity is low in the room? I'm thinking about getting one but it has to go on a screened-in patio in Tampa, FL. Thank you for any input. Johnnyt
 
If you run air-conditioner it will play fine. I've played in all types of climates (from Taiwan to California). Whichever room had AC played the best, but being super hot and humid in Taiwan, if the AC is broken, it really isn't that fun..

FORGET IT.


It will be absolutely awful. Table will not play right. Cloth will be very damp all the time. Table will not survive the Florida humidity. Frame and everything will warp or bend.

You're better off buying some $500 table off craigslist and putting it in there to try it out and see if you like it before you destroy a Diamond.

I've played on people's tables kept in non-climate controlled garages in the Tampa area and it's not worth it. Rather not have a table at all. It would be even worse in a patio.

I am a few hours from Tampa, and would second that. It wouldn't last long.

The only screened in patios I've seen big enough for a pool table near Tampa have a swimming pool in them as well. :)

Actually, I believe Johnny already has a Valley 7' on his porch, so if that table has survived this long, there is no doubt in my mind that a diamond would hold up. Just my opinion of course :grin:

My patio is 24x18 with another 10x10 for hot tub...I have ne pool. I've had a Valley in it for over two years with no problems staying level or structual damage that I can find. I have the Ridgeback Rails on it so the pockets really play tough when the humidity is over 70%. I figure with the deep shelves on the Diamond's that it might not be much fun in high humidity. Johnnyt
 
I don't think the table plays that much differently when it's humid (I've got a 7' pro/am) but the aramith super pros really seem to be effected by humidity. They seem to want to cling together when it's humid. Seems like on a non humid day when 2 balls come together at slow speed they rebound slightly giving them separation. The same shot on a humid day and the balls end up frozen together killing any run you had going.

If the pressboard a valley is made out of can withstand the environment a diamond certainly would.

If you have an opportunity to get one, I say do it. I think my table is the best entertainment money I have ever spent.

Something to think about..
Whether you get the Diamond or keep the Valley

Try heating the table like a world-class carom table.
Should be reasonable ways to do this without big $

..heated carom tables are always dry

Yes I have thought of some ways to heat the Valley and Glen told me a way to go about it also. I'll have to really look into different kinds of heaters and how much danger they are for catching the table on fire. Thank you. Johnnyt
