If You Could Take Lessons...

I met Stevie Moore, and I've carried his card for a little over a year...with plans of taking a few lessons from him.

I really enjoyed our conversation and he was really easy to talk to...

If you could take lessons from any Pro in the world, who would it be and why?

You said any "Pro" and didn't specifiy player or instructor and there are different types of pros, all are not both professional level instructors nor professional level players.

So with that said on the Professional Instructor Side

1. RandyG
2. Scott Lee
3. Stan Shuffett
4. Dave Sapolis
5. Joe Tucker
Because they are highly regarded teachers of the game of pool.

And on the Pro Player Side

1. Thorsten Hohman
2. Dennis Hatch
3. Rodney Morris
4. Mike Sigel
(2-4 in part because they are left handed and being left handed myself, I would appreciate their perspective)

Earl Strickland. I have always admired his game. His talent and ability are without question. The few times I have spoken to him, his passion and heart are overpowering personality traits that are very inspirational.
I would love to spend a couple of afternoons picking his brain on certain things.

Well first I'd do the tour of the top 6-8 master instructors.........for pro players I'd have to say either Ralphie or Jose .....and probably in that order.

Max is a pretty good teacher from what I hear too, but Ralphie is a great communicator for english not being his first language and his knowledge is very broad, not to mention the things he knows about putting black magic on the stroke.

out of the players....probably Ralf Souquet

He just seems like the kind of character that would be well suited to me. Soft-spoken, knowledgeable, kind of personality who could be an excellent instructor on one-to-one basis.

Allen Hopkins!

his knowledge of ALL games is legendary, and he knows the gambling world like no other I know!

Well, before I ever scrolled down here's what I thought.

First, what I know:

Being great at something does not neccessarily translate into being a great teacher. I think this is why it's a very good thing that people like Randy, Dave, Rufus, Scott, and Tom McG, give lessons because they are excellent communicators, they can effectively impart what they know.

That said, I will tip my hat to greyghost as we share two guys we would like lessons from, Ralf & Max. Extraordinary communicators who can play some, too.

I have also heard that Mike Sigel can bring students up a ball or two.

Best,
Brian kc

Willie Mosconi

My choice would be to spend a Day with , and learn the MENTAL PART of his GAME. Think with that information I would play better, and win more tournaments I enter.

Stan Shuffett without a doubt.

I have been fortunate to have worked with so many instructors already including Randy, Scott, and a half a dozen others. Stan is very high on my wish list.

If I had to pick one pro player, from everything I hear about him, I would probably pick Tony Robles.

Steve

My list:

1. Keith McCready
2. Buddy Hall
3. Grady Mathews

If I can't get lessons, I'll settle for sitting at the same table, listening to the stories, and picking up the tab.

Charlie Williams, Kelly Fisher, Tony Robles, Max Eberle, Ralf Souquet, Johnny Archer, Thorsten Hohman, Joe Tucker in that order and also Stan Shuffett.

I have taken lessons with RandyG, Scott Lee, and Joe Tucker. All are great teachers. All have a great deal of knowledge. All are patient and present the information in a clear manner.
Randy and Scott teach in a similar manner. They work on building a solid foundation for your stroke. Without this foundation there would be not be consistency in your game. Joe has a great talent for working with position and cue ball control.
I would add Ron Vitello. He teaches a great aiming system and has knowledge of some great kicking systems.
My suggestion is start with someone like RandyG or Scott Lee. Work on what they teach you for a few months. Then go to Ron and learn his systems. When you feel comfortable with that go to Joe Tucker to learn from him.
Each person has something unique to teach. Put everything together to become a complete player.

1. Earl Strickland
2. Johnny Archer
3. Mika Innomen

I have played Johnny and Earl and it seems my game improves every time they beat me!
Mika makes everything seem so easy he falls on the balls well. The main thing I would like is to hear their thought process as they attack a rack of balls. Out loud for them to tell you whats on their mind as the approach the table and before and after each shot. that would be priceless!
