I had the pleasure of a day on the water with Jim Rempe. We caught our share of big Striped Bass and had a great time. Jimmy is well and giving lessons out of his home in PA these days. Anyone interested in booking the charter of a lifetime... try East Coast Charters in Rhode Island. Captain Jack put us on big fish all day...just like Rempe running a rack, he makes it look so easy.

James looks well. Congrats on the experience. I've caught some brown trout in the 15# range & it was a blast. It must be crazy to hook something like that!
 
The bass was 35lbs.

I'd say Jim caught about 15 fish total. Nothing under 20 pounds on this day. It was mostly catch-release. The charter captain (Jack) really hooked us up with a prime spot.

The bass are all saltwater though gunzby is correct that stripers live equally well in fresh water.

The biggest bass (first photo) tried to run its way onto the prop...it tried to break off under the boat...it made about three big runs. (Not typical for a striper). Jimmy knows his stuff and every time the fish made a move, Jim had a response.

I still can't believe I got outfished in my own bay...

Here's a shot on the way to the fillet table. Jimmy's wearing a little war paint from a couple smaller fish that got knicked in the gill.

A winning combination

A champion pool player and a pretty fair fisherman-might cool. Got to be careful of the hooks in both pursuits.
 
That's some great fishing! I am going to try to catch some of those myself in the near future in the Mayrland area. Way cool...

Man, those are some nice stripers......we have 'em in the SF Bay and in the Delta too.....they are strong fighters...
 
Jimmy is looking good, glad to hear that he is still active in the pool world....Hopefully he comes and plays in our 14.1 event at Valley Forge !

Nothing's better than fresh fish right out of the water. They must have tasted great!
 
Is Jimmy planning on writing a biography some time in the future? That's one I'd love to read.
 
Jim will be at Valley Forge. I hope he chooses to play, but he tries to make time to get to the show every year. Last year he signed some autographs at my booth and told a story or two.

This year, I plan on having a few copies of the P & B issue with his "fish story" to give away. That kind of autograph isn't for everybody, but to some it is as good as they get.

A couple guys have asked about East Coast Charters and how they can set up a striper trip. Here is the link and a pic of Jim with the owner/operator, Captain Jack.

Jim is A SUPER nice dude to hang with. All the years he played in our 14.1 tourny the man performed like a champ. He would sit and BS, and never had the "I'm a world champ" attitude at all.

I live close to Jim, I just might head up ther for a few hours of instruction before the DCC!

on a side note.....what kind of action can we get on a Sigel v Rempe fishing tourny? :) that would be awsome!

It would be a battle. I think Rempe could spot Sigel 2 baits and a plug. Get Danny D well enough to fish and we might even have a calcutta.:grin-square:
