Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Who's now rich and who's now broke?

Jeff Livingston

Whitey Walker won the 9 ball and Gary Lutman got 2nd. Last I saw I believe there were three in the one pocket including Engle, Lutman...possibly Beau. Regardless Gary was hands down the big winner of the weekend tournament wise for best showing in both. Chance had him 2-0 I believe in their one pocket match but Gary came back to win. I am sure more info will be posted.

Shuff was third in one pocket.

I played well. I was one round out of the money. The two that beat me were DSM players.

I must say that I, and a lot of others, felt that the tournament could have been ran better. I didn't play my first round match till Saturday, and by that time others had played three rounds. I didn't hear it first hand, but "someone" said that Jamie Baraks wouldn't come back because of how it was ran. I'm not complaining, but more hoping that some bugs get ironed out for the next time.

Bruce you are not the only one to hear that. I talked to a buddy of Beaus who said the same thing. What time did the 9 ball actually start up Saturday night? Calcutta didn't start for what about an hour to an hour and a half later than scheduled at least. The guy I was talking to said he could understand it on delays and such if it was say the Derby, or a bigger tournament with a bunch more players....but this tournament wasn't "big" and he didn't understand it. He wasn't overly b*tching about it but it was very noticeable. I know one pocket can slow things up but still...I am sure others will post why this was the case.

They stopped taking sign ups at 6:40pm Friday. It was at least 9:30 till the first matches started. My first match was Mike H. and he said that he had plenty of time Friday night to play. He wasn't sure why either. They wouldn't let us even hit balls till 8:30pm Friday without paying table time considering we all payed green fees that were about the same price as the all night rates.....?

Update

You may be a nit there, but you would be a high roller here.
I hope you keep the stories coming, I, for one, enjoy them a lot.
Good luck to you.

I bet! I drove by Big Dogs at 4:30 this morning, on the way to work, and there was still 15 cars in the parking lot.

Ray's Facebook said they were still playing doubles one-pocket at 7 am.

Jesse Bowman & Brandon Shuff vs Jesse Engel & Gary Lutman Race to 5. Gary & Jesse getting 10/7. Been going all night. 3-1 Shuff/Bowman right now.

Did Gary win the one-pocket or did Jesse finish the double dip?

Well I took the day off today. I def need the recovery time lets just say that.

C'mon Rocky - Drink some raw eggs, smack around some halfs of beef. Let's get back to it. :slap:

What's the story?!?! inquiring minds that didn't take the day off are dying to know....

I need a small novel at least and an entire diatribe at most.

What were the payouts and the calcutta? I hadn't heard the final tallies.

Not sure if these are 100% correct but these are the numbers I heard in the stream

One pocket
tourny-calcutta
1000 - 950
750 - 650
500 - 450
180 - 320
100/100 - 250/250

I heard the 9 ball tourny side payout was the same as the one pocket but that might not be right.

Update from IH44

There was some mad action converged on Des Moines this weekend. At one time there was 7 of the 8 Diamond 9fts going with One Hole match ups!

Everyone got played. Bigtruck even mixed it up with The Rookie after the stream.

The Rookie, aka Joe "The Mayers" of Des Moines was the minister of who's who for the show this weekend and did some very good commentary! Thanks buddy.

Mark it down. Truck loves Iowa! Great poolroom and lots of great people. Mikey Frost IS the man. Never waits for action. He makes it happen. Cool dude.

Thanks to Randy Hansen and the awesome staff at Big Dog Billiards. Good room. Hope to make it back sometime soon.

Ray
