Let's put away the straw man argument about a tux being required. The dress code allows jeans, chinos, polo shirts, T-shirts, sneakers, sandals, etc.
The dress code's point isn't that people in the listed clothes are automatically degenerates, but that the presence of too much of that kind of clothing will lead to negative inferences about the pool room. Pool already has a horrible image - much of it deserved - so Paul is wise to be proactive.
