Me and the wife have never been to Vegas but are considering going for the ACS nationals in May with our team.
Should we stay at the Tropicana where to Tournament is being held or is there a better choice of hotels closeby? Should we book now, is there a better time to book, or book last minute? We are somewhat flexible with travel dates. Whats the best way to book the trip, local travel agent, combo deal with online site like priceline? Out budget is somewhat limited so the more we cave on travel expenses the more we have for other things.

Sorry for so many questions but i know you guys will come though with the answers!!

My last few trips I have booked through Expedia and gotten a great deal.

Shop around for pricing, but stay as close to the action as possible.

I will never support the ACS. I suggest going to BCA or VNEA instead. JMO

SHould I book it now or wait till March or so?

I would look now and see what you can get. Then watch it daily for the next month or so and if you see it drop a bit, then book it.

You can sometimes save by waiting until the last minute but not always.
I usually book 1-2 months out.

It depends on the price as to when to book. I know from Houston to Vegas, about $200 round trip is usually a good deal flying Southwest. Prices fluctuate a lot so me and a friend look a couple times a week for pricing, when we figure it is as low as it's gonna get we buy the ticket.
Where to stay is another issue. Remember, if you stay far away, you still have to figure taxi fare to get to and from the venue. Hotel may be cheaper, but you can end up spending some bucks on transportation. When we went last year to BCA the Riviera wanted about $90 per room while Circus Circus wanted $39. We stayed at the cheaper as it was still walking distance. For me it is not that important where to stay as long as it's close to the venue and clean. We only go to the room to sleep.

Your the second person to recommend Circus Circus to me. How close is it to the Tropicana? Reasonable walking distance? I looked on Google maps but that doesn't really give me a good sense on the distance.

Don't allow your trip to become full of "Choas" !!

I am a senior on a very limited income but I treat myself to visit the BCA
4 the past six years.

Please believe me when I say that I know many of the hidden secrets of staying inexpensively in Las Vegas.

First of all please contact me at noelisd14u@yahoo.com for any additional help.

I really suggest staying at the Sahara Hotel. It's not the glamorous place it was once upon a time, however U will B on the strip for at least half the price of the other strip hotels.
I generally stay there or downtown.

Secondly, U do have the nice pool to refresh yourself either in the morning or afternoon.
Also beginning on the 13th of May there will B the National One Pocket championships at the Riviera Hotel. I will either B in the stands watching or playing perhaps. U can walk over there from the Sahara.

Getting up to the Tropicana, just get your bus pass on Las Vegas Blvd.

Circus Circus is NOT close to the Tropicana and it can be a slow drive down the strip to get back and forth. The other major hotels on the corner of Trop and the strip are NYNY, MGM Grand, and Excaliber (with the Luxor next door). Keep in mind that even a hotel across from the venue can be a long walk. These properties are huge and set back off the street. Just getting from your room to the front door in some of these can be a shlep.

Good luck and have fun.

I don't really know much about ACS, but I guess we are playing on a team this year for them.

If you are being money cautious, you may want to double check this link. It appears your entry fee into the tournament includes a voucher to encourage people to stay at the Tropicana. It appears you lose the money of the voucher if you don't stay there but you can use it towards your room if you do.

Just thought I'd mention it. Good luck!

Dogs is right, the Circus Circus is not close at all. Of the properties he mentions above, the Excaliber is likely the cheapest. The walk to the Tropicana will be a mild workout but the skywalk over the Strip will make it fairly easy. I did this a few times myself last month.

I would just stay at the Trop. The prices are very reasonable and it's much easier to leave your cues in the room instead of carrying them around. I would check with the Trop about upgrading rooms to any that have been refurbished. If you want a nicer hotel then the MGM is probably the best alternative. Don't stay at the other end of the strip ala Circus Circus or the Sahara. My .02.

The Tropicana has been going through renovations over the past year and is one of the better values for the money on the strip. Here's a review of a renovated room posted a few weeks ago with plenty of photos. - http://www.vegastripping.com/features/feature.php?feature_id=213&page=1

Another plus is that you're in the middle of the action when the day's events are done.

Vegas Tripping is a pretty good site for checking out the other hotels too before making a reservation. Also, check out the resort fees before you book your room. Some of the hotels are tacking on $15-$20 per day fees for things you may not get that much value out of - the gym, internet access, newspaper, etc.

If you want to head up to the Riviera from thh Trop, it's easy to jump on the monorail at MGM for $5 each way to the Hilton and walk to the Riviera. The bus on the strip is also an option if you're not in commute traffic. At night, skip the bus...you'll be sitting on the strip in a traffic jam for an hour.

Stay at the Trop!!! Perhaps you might not mind walking twenty minutes from the immediate surrounding hotels but your wife might. Especially with cues! Weather in May can be 90 degrees plus. The Circus is nearly at the other end of "The Strip". Not worth considering. Support the ACS and the Trop. The event is not the BCAPL or APA but it is a fun event anyway.

Thanks for the replys guys.
One more question though. The team I am going with will be all Vegas first-timers. Some one told a guy on our team that we can also play in the BCA nationals teams as well because ACS is partner or something with ACS. Is this true? Can we play in both? I cant find any info on BCA or ACS's website about this at all.

Just call the BCAPL. They are very responsive and I'm sure would be happy to answer your question. Even if they don't allow it, the entry fee to join the BCAPL is not a lot. If you do join the BCAPL you might want to ask if this would allow your team to play or if you and your teammates would only be eligible for the singles competitions.

If you co-sanction your ACS league with the BCAPL, your team will be allowed to play in both. The BCAPL sanction fee will have to be paid. You will need to reach the minimum number of games (32) per player. Each player will also have to join the BCAPL ($15). There is a cutoff date for sanctioning your league. Go to either the CSI or BCAPL website. Look under contacts. Glenna Stock may still be the right person. If not, Tess is. If there is an existing BCAPL league in your area, they may object. Good luck regardless.

From May 7th to 13th?

Stay at the Trop. with the ACS discount which is similar to Expedia and Hotel.com...except for the initial deposts required.

Remember that the Trop. has a $8.00 resort fee/night. The average cost per night is $84.00 + $8.00 resort fee.

The only other Hotel Casino close that is affordable is the Excalibur across the street. The average cost per night is $53.00 + $10.00 resort fee that includes in room WiFi.

We were there only once and hopefully again soon. Had a great time.
I'll second Expedia because thats what my wife used and we seemed to get a pretty decent rate all the way around.

There is probably other options. We got air fare from Canada for two return for $1200 plus rooms for 6 days at the Circus. Obviously the Circus isn't the best but it suited our needs perfect. These days one could most likely get better accommodations and still get a great package price.

Next time we really want to go in May and skip the VNEA.

Then there is this place by Wayne Newtons spread that you might get a room at for $1200 a night. I think the use of a Lamborghini is included.

Now watch Eric put out a hit out on my ass.

Good luck and have fun.
