I'd like to thank a few other table mechanic's....

Craig, if Tony wanted to hold this event on American built tables...why didn't he just use Diamond tables...instead of putting everyone through this nightmare?

Evry time anyone says Diamond his blood presure goes up 40 +points and the Italian really comes out of him + a 20-30 minute speach on tables.

Next year you supposed to have 32 Brunswicks I know I know only the castings are American made. He may be putting in some snooker tables and Billiards over the years combining morre tournaments.

Well, Tony should be listening more to what the players want, instead of trying to shove these kind of tables down their throats to play on...OH well, time answers all questions...and always brings about changes....some we like, others we don't....either way, time will tell if Tony will smarten up or not;)

Final question Craig...did you get square on the money for that job?

Gabriels could learn something from you when it comes to sending their tables out with so called ProCut pockets. It grips me that they as a manufacture would rather, instead of extending the sub-rails...use the old trick of doubling or tripling up the facings...only they must think it's OK the way they do it....because it's only ONE facing....so what if it's thick as hell, and causes the pockets to play dead.

Great to hear you say this! Wife and I were playing at a local pool hall the other night that has 9' Gabriels. The pockets aren't terribly tight, I think they were about 4 5/8's, maybe 4 3/4", but they just played "odd", even my wife commented on it. I was feeling around the pockets trying to see if I could tell if they were double faced, but couldn't tell, but definitely could tell it was a thick facing. Told her "I think they play odd/off because they made the pockets tighter the cheap way.". That of course convinced her that we will spend the money to properly tighten the pockets on our home table from the current buckets to 4.5" (which she wants them to be tight). She was getting super frustrated at the way those pockets played, to the point she wasn't having fun anymore. So, good to know I was actually right about the pockets and the reason for it!

I remember that table Donny, that's the one you took Zach with you to deliver and setup when I was at your shop. Great work I might add on your part taking them thick as hell factory facings off and extending the rails the right way to tighten the pockets....Gabriels could learn something from you when it comes to sending their tables out with so called ProCut pockets. Good job Donny....wish more mechanic's were like you and Craig and show your work more often....the world would be a better place to play pool if they did;)

We didn't have time to do proper extinsion on the reno tables so we went with 3/8" thick facings also.

Nice work Donny Keep it up.

No its a long story in the long run it might work out but in the short term it's ugly. I'll just right it off as volunter work for the Railbird project, junior national, wheel chair, event if a tax attorny thinks I can be interesting.

He did take care of afew things for me and and haas other was of compinsation in the long term.

Right now I take pride in doing something that no one else wanted to do with no plan or structure to start with just run and gun and call in a few friends that know what they are doing or I have showed them over the years from helping me out, to knowing how a table should play from the start.

I still think of it as a paid vaction from my old job and 9 days of torture to get some practice in to remember all the tricks and trades of being a table mechanic again.

Roughly 2 weeks of pool tournament 200 players 7-10 complaints minor fixes as the tables adjusted to the floor. Wheelchair players had aare time on the tables carpet was real thick on those skinny tires so the used the tables to pull themselves around for 3-4 days and the tables setled right in and played great from then on. Just a few broken pockets and a crowned slate I couldn't fix with out making fair to other matches played on it all ready.

I can really see an advantage to one piece slate tables... flop, level, clean & again.....

JOB Billiards in Nashville for the Music City Open

Here's a job we recently completed thanks to Glen not having the schedule to do it around the holidays. ;) Thanks, buddy!

JOB Billiards in Nashville has an awesome room. It was an absolute pleasure working with Peg Ledman, Ricky Gamble and their staff.

We recovered 9 7' Diamonds in this room:

(I love the bleacher seating in this place!)

Then 4 more in this room:

Plus the 9 footer in "The Pit"
IMAG0477.jpg

One of the funniest things I heard the whole trip was when we were working on the table in the pit and someone walked by and said "That's how you know you're a true rail bird. You'll sweat someone BUILDING a table!" I think at one count, we had almost a dozen people on the rail just watching us work. Don about lost it at one point...there was a constant chatter the whole time we were working about how we were doing things, and what we should be doing, and what the last guy did, etc. But you could hear a pin drop when I started rolling glue onto the brand new cloth!

Anyway, then we recovered 5 more tables in another room downstairs. Then came the fun stuff!

We recalibrated 6 more tables to the newer Diamond specs.

They all got the new bevel, and calibrated rail height using Diamond Black rubber, and everything in the place has Tournament Blue Simonis 860HR.

Sorry I don't have pictures of the finished product on the ones we recalibrated. I think that day ended up being a 17 hour day. The place was closed and the lights were off by the time we were loading the tools. We did however hit some balls around on a couple of the tables we did, and one Glen recalibrated about a month before. I couldn't tell a difference in the play. ;)

If you guys happen to read this, thanks again to Ricky and Peg and all of the staff at JOB's. We had a blast working with you!

Thank you sir, but looks to me like you got it figured out! Hats off to you, Shane and the others for a helluva job well done!

Nice work Josh Got to love those railbirds.

You should be getting a call from a father and son team Bill & Bill He played in the junior nationals I think they have a diamond that need setup and recalibrated to the new specs.

Nice nice work,
Craig

Recalibrated and extended 9' Professional

Here's a link to another table we just finished up this week.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=216539

A good friend of mine bought a used 9' Diamond Professional. We put it in and then recalibrated the rails to the modern Diamond specs. He wanted a tight practice table, so we ended up with 4-1/4" corners and 4-3/4" sides. The tables plays brutal, but REALLY good!

It's always fun doing a job for someone when you can see the genuine smile it brings to their face when they JAW a ball! ;)

Again, sorry I didn't take enough pictures of the process. I guess the camera is one tool I need to get in the habit of using more often. LOL

Yeah, the Thorpe's. I know Billy, and his dad Bill called me the other day, although not about his table. He was calling about setting up a friend's. How do you know them?

I met them @ the junior National tournament in Reno Nice guys I trusted his word more then most if there was a problem on the table I go look at it.

Craig

Just got to spend a couple of days on those tables at JOBs, and a nice relaxing drive home after the tourney ended last night.
Definitely some good playing tables in there.
Did a couple of tables around the area and in Alabama, headed back next week for more tables and a couple of deliveries. I guess I should include 12-13 hour drives in the local area....lol
Rick and Peg are awesome- never met them before, but remember Jim...
Glen, there was more people asking me who you were by description than I think there were people asking Archer for his autograph! lol
Seems that someone was out there recently rebuilding table 19 and had an admiring fan club.
Never found a loose bedfelt in the place Josh.
Now if we can keep Buddy from sitting on the tv table....
All in all, I think that Nashville appreciates the AZ Mechanics pretty well-
way to represent guys!

Thanks, Shane. It's nice to hear good feedback about a big job like that. One of my customers told me yesterday that you could see my banner in the background on the live stream. Unfortunately just Dayton, Ohio and the phone number, you couldn't see the logo. :frown: Oh well. Guess I'll bribe the Accu-Stats team next time to get the whole thing on cam. :D
