USPPA Reno players, did they get paid?

?????

nfty9er...Well if you know Mrs. Starry, why don't you send her here, so she can see what's going on, and maybe act on it. As far as people "keeping quiet", so they might get paid, that is total BS too.

First, where is here that I would send her?
2nd, where did I say I knew her.
I did meet her once years ago, I don't even think she could speak English then.
Someone on this threat did say they called her and that
she was supposedly going to look into it but I could be wrong too, as it seems eons ago this mess started.

nfty9er...Sorry, your post seemed to imply that you knew her, or how to reach her. Here, would be here on AzB, right on this thread. If she owns it then she should be able to force Tony to make it right with the players...or something.

If the players get paid that would be great for the USPPA because they won't have to live down the Reno experience.

Then again if they aren't, is this a sign that the amateurs and pros are in need of some type of enforcement agency or financial regulatory regime?

What is to stop other people from not paying out?

I am all for free enterprise and free markets, but people's lives are being hurt by actions like the USPPA failure to payout. And it hurts. How can the sport of pool maintain their integrity as they are faced with challenges like this?

Nevada has a gaming commission. Does pool need a prize money commission? It has been so long since changes were adopted to protect players that people accept these old ways as tradition instead of failed policies that were never updated.

This is a time to update them and I hope players, promoters and room owners post suggestions or tell people what they need to know.

I see your point for sure. Maybe he was a victim of a hold up or some other bad thing at the tournament or lost it playing a few wrong numbers at the tables in Reno.

Maybe he bought stock in a pencil company and the stock was worth nothing just before time to pay out!

At least he could have told everyone the truth from that start, when he knew he couldn't pay them.

I truly feel bad for Tony but i just wish he was man enough to post something to help clear things up. Or maybe it is better not to know and let time go by so that everyone will forget.

Oh well, sorry for the sarcasm. My last post on the subject. I only hope that everyone gets paid!

The problem with your scenario is you have to show intent and no matter what I am positive Tony did not intend for this to happen. In fact I know he didn't.

nfty9er...Intent is irrelevant at this point. The $$$ was paid in by the tournament players. The facts are that Tony has NOT paid out the prize money, that was there...for whatever reason. His silence in not responding to almost anyone (and nobody on here) speaks volumes, imho. Noone should have stay silent to get paid what is owed them, regardless of why it wasn't paid on time, in the first place.

However I was just pointing out to the poster that if he was hinting that those scenarios was a way to proceed it would be very difficult to prove intent. Yes I have brought up before, what happened to the almost 10 grand he did collect on entry fees.
Also if you think I am defending Tony you are sadly mistaken.

Usppa Payment Update

Tony is supposed to make a statement on the USPPA website about how he is going to pay the players off the Reno Pro-Am held at the Peppermill Casino. He told me we would have it up on the website this week.

Thanks for passing it on. But We keep hearing him saying he will do something next week... next week...and it's been over a month.

I wish he would just do it instead of saying he will

You know what's going on. Did he make one of his famous "I'll sue you" if you told the deal? Would you play at an event he put together again? Right from the beginning he said he wasn't going to pay you or Carl. Say he post one of his self serving diatribes and blames you and others for fixing the games and that is why he wont pay. Will you call him out or stay silent? The whole thing stinks. This week there was a great tournament in San Jose. 93 players and it took 2 days, everyone got paid and had fun. How many days did you have to stay at the Peppermill for how many players?
There will be a great tournament starting Friday. The only place that has as much fun as the DCC are the tournaments at California Billiards. Chris is doing a great job of promoting action, before, during, and after tournaments.

There is a lot of sheepish internet noise it could be due to all the tension on the topic. But in the theme of remaining objective, this thread has been here longer they it needs to and is starting to serve other purposes. Like the personal offend/defend USPPA personalities posts.

The pool community has stayed the same but the financial tools available to people are changing. It would be great if people in the community learned about them, introduced them or players start demanding them. It would be ignorant to just ignore the existence of financial tools to protect investors/shareholders from these types of situations.

An organizer that can get crowds is great but is common and expected. An organizer that knows and implements the latest in financial securities to their customers in terms of guarantees, warranties or returns should be standard practice by now but most likely isn't because people think putting cash in a metal lock box is just as good as other financial products, until people start asking questions or demanding better service.

Is this a sign of the changing times that people that hold the cash, put up the cash or organize cash distribution need to be safeguarded against? Or is the real risk the players who show up, put on a good show and are left in the cold after the event because the prize money was just a marketing tool?

In the past the word escrow has been mentioned. But that would involve someone representing the players to be involved.

This seems to present a definite lack of integrity, if true.....making lame and weak excuses for not paying? That is not a good sign.........

A major distinction for prize paying events is if the funds held are in an insured account, something protected from theft or financial bankruptcy.

I will not develop the details of problems of people holding money for investors, lottery winners or tournament players in cash. I think that is evident.

I will develop an idea about the process of holding money, like in an insured checking account, an insured online voucher, or even prepaid credit. There are many different ways to protect money. Of all the ways which can be demonstrated to players or investors before a tournament begins? All of them. Is this practice common? No, because people just want to play pool and not worry about the financial challenges, its a common marketing tool to distract buyers until they hand over info.

Could you speak English? You are not making any sense.

When did you come to America?

The players arrived a long time ago but when they got here some two bit hustler bankrolled their money and stole it from them. The situation I am bringing you up to date on is that people with money usually lose it to people that speak English. Hopefully you will be one of those people one day, the type that speaks understandable English.

OK everyone, problem solved! The USPPA can't pay the players because someone who speaks English took the money when the players arrived on the Mayflower. Damn you two bit English speaking bankrolling hustlers!
