Pros not telling you everything.....

So, the pros ain't telling. If they did, we'd all be pros as well and they'd be out of a job.

The Weatherman's golf tip.

Finally..................

I know that many might disagree with you ,but I am of the the opinion. It too is based on experience from several pros. And by the way the only difference between a professional and amateur ( not considering ability ) . Is that one does it for a living or money (road players are pros). Have told me the exact same things. Never once , though I asked , was I told what are they looking at (or seeing ) when aiming. Only things that they wanted to disclose.
And then told not to pass it on . I think this has been some sort of ritual that I myself am guilty of.
And by the way , the more people that don't believe this the more it works.

Thank you...finally someone who is commenting the ROOT of the thread which is pros keeping secrets or not....

Neil AWESOME POINT!........

I agree with you. Even though you will catch a lot of flack and be told that you are wrong. There are many out there with the talent, but not the knowledge to advance. You can spend a lifetime and never get the knowledge without someone telling you. You will also find that most will say you are full of it. Don't listen to them.

One quick proof that he is right- look at the number of players that play REAL good today compared to the number of players that played real good 30 years ago. The huge increase in numbers is due to nothing more than a lot of knowledge being dispensed over the internet, books, DVD's, and a lot more instructors than there used to be. The increase in knowledge has produced more great players than ever before in history. However, not ALL the knowledge is out there for the taking yet!

This is maybe WHY pros dont like to divulge their secrets. More competition to worry about? IMHO it's really not even that....I truly believe that its due to the fact that they've worked so hard to learn what they've learned that they think..WHY should I just GIVE you info that I worked so hard to find out on my own....Becasue to be honest with all of you....Some of the things that I've figured out on my own I have and will NEVER just come out and tell someone......I've spent too much money practicing hours on end at the table to just give that info away to just anyone......

It's not jsut one thing.............

Pistol, I just look at the shot and fire them in. In my view practice makes perfect. Everyone's aiming process differs, just find what works and put in the time. After that it's heart and dedication. No secrets, just like any other sport, talent and time.

It's not JUST aiming. I mentioned aiming because that was ONE secret that 3 pros have taught ME. But this goes with anything and everything under the sun

Playing by feel...............

Pat, I understand what your saying and you are 100% correct. There are little techniques and systems that advanced players use and very rarely discuss. Do we really believe the best players in the world and there favorite answer, " I don't know how I do it, I just do it", this is total bullshit. They are making a living playing pool, they know all about what they are doing. They don't share for the most part.

Yeah when I had a conversation with ********* and asked him when asked about how he shoots and this and that he said that he JUST says he doesnt know and says he justs shoots....Then he looked at me with this devious smile and just laughed and he said...We all say that..just like we all say that we are lucky like efren....THAT'S sayin something!

Aiming system blah  10 years ago before I took that 6 year breakage I could line up 3 sets of 15 balls down the middle of the table take the ball drop it in front of each one and pop it cross side or cross corner within 1 second. I never worried about cue ball placement, it might end up "dead" or might be a inside or outside cut. My record at that was 42 out of 45 banks. I never used any type of aiming system.. my mind just "sees" the shot. I'm not back to that level yet but I'm close

willie mosconi

if i'm not mistaken ( it has happened before ) someone offered willie 100 for a lesson, he agreed. they got to the table, he said heres the lesson don't miss. then walked away.

Practice leads to discovery...........

Heres an example...say you didnt know how to power draw the ball. you had no access to anything to teach you except you and your own discoveries on the felt.....lets say that it takes you xxx amount of dollars for table time till one day when you were testing every damn thing in the world and BAM you figured out how to do it...after how many hours days and months of trying and xxx amount money spent as well as pushing your frustrations to its limits you FINALLY know how to power draw...it has become YOUR little secret.....next day you see some new kid trying to do what you NOW know how to do....Are you you just gonna walk up to him and show him how to do it just like that without that kid working hard FIRST himself so that he can earn that knowledge??? I'm a nice guy but I aint nice and dumb.....I would hint to someone how to do something but never right out deal all teh info unless I liked the person and I saw them struggling JUSt as bad as I had with whatever I was trying to learn.... And that's the point Im getting across...Pros have many " secrets " that they arent telling you cuz you have to work hard to earn that knowledge yourself...

Not limited to aiming.....

Remember people THIS ISNT LIMITED TO AIMING SYSTEMS OR WHATEVER YOU WANNA CALL IT. Its Anything from cut shots, to draw, follow, using english etc...

Wonder how many little secrets and techniques John Bromback has about banking, think you couldn't learn anything?

There is no secret Pistol. Lets just say that there was and you could pocket any ball on the table by using this method. That would only be a small part of what makes a great player. What about position play, patterns, safety play, mental toughness, even if a magic aiming secret did exist you still have to have proper stroking fundamentals or you still couldn't make the ball. It takes hard work, desire, dedication, and like FB says God given talent

I don't think there is any big secret. It all comes down to experience. If your talented enough it will only be a matter of time before you learn what you need to know:smile:

" Sigh ".......Aiming was an example...

If people ONLY read ALL the previous threads then they wouldnt post what they would post becasue then they would realize that when I put in aiming that it was AN EXAMPLE.....unless all you guys who are posting similar stuff are just messing with me so that I get frustrated and post over and over agaion that ITS NOT JUST AIMING THAT IT SPANS ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING......Lol....k THAT'S the last time I repeat myself...." Sigh "

Fatboy correctomundo

Fatboy hit it already,

knowledge is really important-- but some guys have the needed talent to reach the top-and some not!
I also think that almost everyone is able to reach a really great level in pool-billiards with a big amount of training/hours. But somewhere it will end.....and what you really also have to learn..........it s also not easy to just have fun while playing. This can be really a hard part in the mental part of the game (most underestimated imo). To be lucky and in peace with yourself is a thing you have to learn! To learn to just let negative things behind you...every time you need to!
the physical part is the smaller problem in billiards!

keep shooting my friend and have fun^^

Fatboy nails it!! All men are created equal is not true. Some are smarter, faster, have better hand eye cord etc. I think some people are special in almost any effort. Not just sports but everything. Most great players are gifted with a lot of natural ability and would probably excel in most any effort, not just pool. I will now give you the secret to pool!! I don't share this with everyone but I truly believe each and every one of you are SPECIAL!! Sit down, close your eyes and have a trusted friend read you these words and try to not start crying. It's a two part system so you must be able to count to two, but remember your special so this will come effortlessly. ONE-pocket the ball your shooting. TWO- immediately after contact with OB send cue to a position for your next ball. Now you have the secret so go get em.

Misconception of " Secrets "....

I don't think there is any big secret. It all comes down to experience. If your talented enough it will only be a matter of time before you learn what you need to know:smile:

People are misinterpreting the use of the word secret in this thread as ONE specific secret or even secrets...Let's put it this way....The pro's have a MORE in depth KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING of pool and MOST of it's dynamics and most are UNWILLING or UNLIKELY to share WHAT THEY have learned and what they've come to understand to those who LACK the understanding and the knowledge that they ( Pros ) posses....hows that?

I wish people would stick to the threads real purpose....

Nothing anyone has said is INCORRECT...however those who have commented on MORE than anything other than the fact that Pros do NOT like sharing their hard earned pool knowledge and understanding is really steering off course and turning this thread into something way outta the threads original statement....This thread has nothing to do with aiming systems or how hard you practice or who has more talent blah blah blah......Oh man...here I go again...and I said I wouldnt repeat myself...its so hard when people just don't read the whole thread and JUST post....Oh well POST ON PEOPLE...My work here is done

Times are a changin'.

1. The pros DO NOT easily share "their SECRETS" of pool.

One of the best professionals in the world confided in me that he will not divulge certain secrets until after he has finished his career. There's no doubt that the professional players know things that amateurs don't. To believe otherwise 'tis folly.

2. One person's "SECRETS" is another person's everyday knowledge.

3. One person's "SECRETS" is another person's epiphany.

4. I have learned MANY "SECRETS" from professional players and my experience is like yours. Most pros DO NOT WANT to "cast their pearls upon the swine".

5. There will always be those who poo-poo "THE SECRETS" and that's just fine by all of the pros. Most of the pros won't waste a moment of their time trying to convince anyone of anything. Why should they? The pros visit forums like AZ Billiards and see all of the naysayers ridiculing them and their pool "secrets" on a regular basis. Why would they want to argue with an anonmous entities hell bent on making making themselves look "questionably important" by knocking others down in the process?

In the generation that I grew up in, the top players, at least on a local basis, took most of what they knew to their graves.
