Derby City Favortism...

Tap Tap Tap! Hat's off to Paul Smith for "man"ing up and coming on here first of all! He offered an explanation for why this may have happened and then took responsibility for it as well. ..:

Sounds like the way the good ole boys club works...

For the record, I apologized to Adam in a PM because somehow I did not read the first 5 pages of this thread. I don't know how I missed them but I was under the wrong impression when I argued on here whether or not JA should have been forfeited. I'm sorry Adam and hope I didn't discourage you from posting on here.

I had to play Johnny Archer in the 7th round of the 9 ball on Saturday at 11:00am. I got there and hit balls early as well as most of the other players and the matches were announced a few minutes after 11. Everyone started their matches except for me.

At 11:10 am, Johnny wasn't there so I went to the tournament desk and advised them and the woman attending to the tournament told me he was on the clock and had 5 minutes.

At 11:20 am I went back to the desk and asked them if it was now a forfeit and what time the next draw was at, since Johnny had not shown up yet. I was told that they didnt have the authority to forfeit him...?

At 11:30 am, Johnny shows up and I am told to play, even though he is a half hour late.

I was a little bothered by this whole episode and it reflected in my game and I henceforth, lost the match. I went and found the tournament director who was not present during the earlier dealings and he said that since he was not present he can't make a decision. I was told to go talk to the "real" head tournament director "Paul Smith", who I looked for and asked for, but he was not around the desk (apparently, just when things like this come up).

I feel a little jaded by this whole situation and wanted to vent a little. There were lots of players forfeited over the tournament, why not this match? The rule was 15 mintutes, as specified in the Player's Meeting and posted on the site. It cost me an extra $300 and possibly more, if I had won the match.

Any thoughts?

Rules are rules for everyone to abide by, Johnny Archer' match with you should have been a forfeit!, if indeed he was 30 minutes late, 16 minutes late constitutes a forfeit.

There should be one person for the whole tournament to govern all the forfeitures of matches period!, with absolutely no FAVORITIZM!

I apologize if the answer is somewhere above, don't think it is.
To the OP, if you are still respoding to this thread, and if you feel like revealing this, but what did Johnny do when he finally arrived, that is, what was the conversation between you two?

He said that he spoke to someone and they said the tourney was running 15 minutes late... which we know is not true as Fatboy clearly posted that JA was in his room resting/sleeping and didn't know what time his match was.

Everyone else started at 11:02am...

The people at the tournament desk told me JA had forgot his cues in his car and had to go get them??? JA could have crawled on his stomach the entire way and been there on time

Thanks for the reply

For Johnny: Oh what a wicked web we weave........

Funny how all things clearly reveal how everyone involved seem to just ooze loads of BS from their mouths to protect Archer.

EVERYONE is in it to protect JA.
Everyone is in it to screw you over.
I wonder if the people at the desk make it a habit to lie for non name players when they are late for matches.

That is the system that is in place, and that is the way the system will always be because for whatever reason, everyone in charge just loves brown-nosing pros.

The Derby will be the exact same way next year unless they fire every single one of the suck ups that work there.

But if the suck ups are the ones hosting the event, the long glorious history of favoritism at the DCC, might go on forever.

Any non name player might as well get used to that idea, because in the world of pool, despite paying the exact same money to play in the event, non name players will always be second class citizens.

This is a bad situation, no one wants to forfeit anyone.
I know on the seminole tour the tour director takes the decision making out of the players hands, if 15 minutes after your match is called you are not there, guess what ? You are forfeited, that way the player doesnt look like a bad guy.

If I remember last year in jacksonville Johnny was forfeited on the seminole tour to keith bennett.

I dont think I would of played, everytime I made a mistake I would be thinking about how I should not even be playing and it would shark me.

That sux adam......see ya saturday at hammerheads im sure

I've read all these posts...and all I have to say is, "The hardest jobs, are made easy by all those that do not have to do them" meaning...not ONE of you who would complain about how the DCC is ran...has done little more than SHOW UP, and then complain after the fact. NOT ONE of you assist in putting on, or preparing for this MAJOR event EVERY YEAR! Yet...you ALL run your mouths like YOU actually HAD something to do with the DCC! Trust me, there is NO favoritism at the DCC, although there is times when someone WILL slip through the cracks! I know everyone of the people involved with the DCC...and NOT ONE of them is on here COMPLAINING! If it were up to me, JA would have been forfeited, but...that's one of the cracks to work on...so is all the BS from the peanut gallery really needed? Or do we all work together and hope next years DCC is even better than this past DCC? For those of you who just can't seem to quit complaining about the FAVORITISM at the DCC....here's some advice for you....DON'T SHOW UP NEXT YEAR! It's this exact kind of BS that is tearing AZBilliards apart as a great world forum!

Basically, everyone lied and it cost Adam an extra $300 as a result by not moving him up a pay grade.

I wonder who is accountable for that money?

Does Archer owe Adam $300?
Does the people at the desk owe him $300?
Do the tournament promoters?

Because after you put all the ass kissing of JA aside, Adam Wheeler got ripped off to the tune of $300 bucks because of it.

As far as i am concerned, someone owes him that money.

Trust me, there is NO favoritism at the DCC

Glen

Obviously, you don't have a firm grip on reality.

When people start a massive search and rescue operation for name players, but they NEVER do the same thing for non name players, that is favoritism, and it happens EVERY year.

All the "should haves"..."could haves"...and "would haves" don't mean anything today. JA is a grown man, and therefore should be responsible for his own actions, but...the situation slipped through the cracks in the DCC....I know Paul personally....if he'd have truly understood the situation....he'd have DQ'd JA....period! So, all this after thought bashing and arguing among each other here on AZ is not helping anything, as it's history. If you want to look at the bright side of DCC, then look at the fact that ALL the players who won prize money....GOT PAID ON TIME, AND IN FULL!

This is not true.

I'm not saying it's rampant, but having attended the event for about ten editions I promise you I have personally witnessed numerous decisions by the desk that clearly favored one player, typically: delaying a match to accommodate a well-known pro player because of something like a late flight (or they were just trying to save a night's lodging); or rescheduling a match just because a pro player wanted to have dinner with his girlfriend; or extended efforts to contact a no-show pro player that most likely would never be undertaken to hunt down Joe Average Pool Player.

We pays our monies and we are entitled to voice our opinion here and elsewhere AND these discussions will lead, hopefully, to a better more impartial event where the playing field is level for all participants. It's not tearing anything down -- it is making things better.

Personally, I would like to see something like Greg going on record that, from here on out: all players will be treated equally. Period :-)

I don't disagree with you at all, I'm pretty sure next year will be even better...as Greg and Diamond take things like this thread personally, and WILL address the issues directly as mistakes made, and NOT to repeat them. I understand late flights, and other problems sometimes do happen, and some sort of arraignments can be made to accommodate situations like these....but when someone's in house, that's another story all together, as one can come up with all the excuses they want, but NONE are a good reason for being late for a match....when they're already there!

Glen

Glen, I think by all accounts people thought DCC was quite good this year. At least from all the comments I've read. So don't think this thread is a function of tearing down all the hard work the folks running it put in. I believe folks just would like to see all players treated equally, regardless of past accomplishments.
