Earl/Shane Scoreboard

The last year the big tables were used for tournament play (Straight Pool Championship) was 1949. The tournament was won by Caras and Jimmy will always be remembered as the last champion on the 5 x 10.

Correct me if I'm wrong Jay, but 5 x 10's weren't popular in the south. And once the tournaments went the way of the 4.5 x 9's it opened THE championship up to more southern shooters - enter Wimpy Lassiter.

The most popular table in the South and Midwest was the oversized eight footer (46" x 92"). Mosconi won many of his titles in the 50's on nine foot tables. Some of his "World Championships" consisted of a long challenge match against one player. He didn't have to beat a field of strong players to claim the world title. Ursitti will vouch for that I'm sure.

dued, they are not ear muffs......they are ear protective devices that you would wear at a shooting range. It keeps sound out. Notice how calm he has been tonight without hearing the voices......

Only thing tastless is you trying to make something out of nothing.....go away...folks wanna hear about the game....oooops, I said "hear" but i mean no offense,,,,,oh please dont telll svb on me....

Good defense.. Go away.

It was just a question, I said I couldn't see the match, and merely stated my opinion. You dont have to agree. And sorry, I think earplugs are fine if the sounds are bothering you, but earmuffs are a bit excessive and for show. And I have never in my life seen a pool player wear them.

If you can't handle questions, maybe you shouldn't be on a public forum.

Wow, didn't take you long to try and start something... why do you give a flying F*ck who roots for who...... free country. fine pool being played....leave your earl bashing for another day. This is the scoreboard, not the earl bashing thread. frkn troll..

Could not have said it better.

earls carrer is walking out the door(has been for a while) he knows this and this is his last stint to make sure people dont forget about him.

there is no way you would be acting crazier then you ever have before unless you were after something.

plain and simple.

Yeah, walking out the door, the guy pushing 50 is playing with the best players of the day, and he is winning right now. He's after making a living, trying to put some money in the bank and pay the rent....i mean, if that is ok with everyone.....

a lot of players from smaller locales, and keep in mind what percentage of America was rural and small before the 1950s, complained about championship 5x10s. Not just the southerners. They complained in editorials that the champions were Brunswick pets propped up by equipment that nobody else could play on. But in 1916, Emmett Blankenship impressed billiards magazine as the only player who seemed comfortable with the equipment during the tournament and coasted to easy victory. he was born on a farm in missouri and brought up in Tulsa. Great players get used to equipment, and it looks like Shane is doing so. No excuses need be made.

I'm quite sure many pool players would take his current career over theirs.

"Walking out the door" ...... laughable.

why should it matter what u look like. ur playin the table not anyone else. do u really think earl wearing ear muffs is takin shane out of his game. im sure he excpected stupid crap like this.

your right, he is winning right now....and its cause the match is set in his favor on every aspect, let see if earl will take shanes game set shanes way after this.

what has earl really done for his career in the last 5-10 years? a couple tourneys? face it, his best days are gone, yes i think he is a great shot and was a better shot at a point in time.... hes not what he used to be, needless to say he is off his fkn meds.

i dont even know how you can breath long enough to type beings you've got earls stick so far down your throat.

Shane is smashing the break. It may turn out to be the difference between these 2 players.

Shane's break is better.
Earl's position play is better.

Shane gets out of line on the nine and.....................played an okay safety, leaving distance and an edge. Earls kicks safe leaving the balls on opposite end rails. Shane leaves it near the corner, Earls overruns position on the 10, but he drills the corss side bank.

62-51.

For show??? are you loopy or what. The only way they work is to wear them on your head, and have them cover your ears completely. Earl plugs are not fine. Been shooting guns for 25 frkn years, and can't stand sticking things in my ears.....

Yeah, so what if you have never seen it.....you still have not, were' telling you about it....so just sit back and enjoy and quit looking for a fight..... 6 hours of this, and then you gotta start something after showing up for 5 minutes..... he can wear whatever the hell he wants... i hope he plays in a souped up wheel chair next time.

Please don't get in a p*ssing match with this guy..

62-51 earl now

i mean who would have thought that earl would be up by this much by day two. im sure ne one that bet on earl is definitely happy considering they probably got crazy odds

Earl sure doesn't need to get any help from a shrink, all he has to do is read AZ!! (Me Included). Ok my two cents. Earl craves attention and approval. He said in an interview one time at some tournament, "I'm just here for the camera time, hell, I used to be a household name!!"

Is Earl finished? Can he get some or all of his game back? Stay tuned.

"Walking out the door" ...... laughable.

pros or every day ball bangers?

highly unlikely there champ, what has he done for himself in the last 5-10 years?

he never seems to be placing in the top ten often, my point is that he isnt the force that he once was.

Looks like you are hanging on Shane's pretty tight yourself.

Actually Mosconi won in both tournaments AND challenge matches. Had to. Tournaments dried up because pool dried up and because Mosconi had few peers. Go ask Don Brink in Raytown Rec about Mosconi's ability. Ursitti will tell you too. I really am not arguing, this is just info. It was not Mosconi's fault when there was no title tournament. And tonight's match is evidence that there is not much of one now. Not the fault of the champion, just society. Violent, crude, and tuned in to UFC tonight.
