Pool Shoes

While these are a bit pricey for pool, they are probably the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned, and I shoot pool in them regularly.

Here's an eBay listing for a new pair at BIN for $89.50, with free shipping.

Plus, they'll shine up really nicely if you want that look, as I do. That shoe is the Allen Edmonds "Wilbert." They go for about $250 at Nordstroms, get 'em on eBay for a lot less.

its interesting for me to read about this topic and thinking about it beyond pool. I never wear shoes, maybe 10 hours a month if that for the past 4 or 5 years(when iu get on a plane i take them off right when i sit down-no they never ever smell) and it was tough at first the bottom skin would wear off, after playing 4-5 hours it was like rug burns on he bottom of mty feet, they hurt etc. but after a while they adapt, I was wasling in the snow today bare foot for 15 minutes and never noticed it, i can walk on gravel, dosent matter your feet become shoes after a while. The only exception is when the streets in Vegas get over 130 degrees in the summer I cant stand that. But as far as tired feet go, never I can play 1P for 8 hours, so im moving all the time and I never think about my feet ever(except the one I broke a while back-its 80% ok now). Interesting how we can adapt.

New Balance get the call for my problem feet. I have a condition that they call peripheral neuropathy and my feet are very uncomfortable all the time and sometimes extremely painful... and for no reason. Nothing wrong with the feet but the nervous system sends pain messages anyway. It got bad enough a few years ago that thoughts of ending it all were entering my mind. New medications have made the condition bearable.

Ouch!

That started my feet aching all over again.
I thought it was the long sessions of pool I played last night. :(

That's one of the things I like about self reflection. As soon as you start feeling sorry for yourself, just look around a bit at what others have to face every day and you will start feeling better about yourself in short order. Glad the meds are making it bearable Jim. It sounds like a terrible problem.

Ever think about the correlation between your back and NO SHOES?? the foot is connected to the ankle bone...the ankle bone is connected to the leg bone... the leg bone is .......... the back bone... :)

I was thinking the EXACT same thing when reading his post. Those on here that have recommended ECCO shoes are dead on. I've bought only ECCO golf shoes for the last 6 years. No problem walking 6-8 miles per round over 100 times a year, and I've never had their waterproofing fail (not important while playing pool, but a testament to their quality of construction). I finally threw out my first pair (6 years old), and it was for asthetics reasons only!!!

My newest favorite pool shoes.

I am luvin my New Balance MW927Bk shoes for pool.

While they don't breathe as well as some of my other shoes, they give my tootsies LOTS of comfort, top, bottom and sides. I wouldn't have thought I would have liked them this much but if you get a chance, try a pair on at your favorite New Balance Store. I had to got to Baton Rouge to find a New Balance Store but when I walked a little while in them and compared them to the other latest and greatest, my feet voted and it was all done.

Now I want to wear them everywhere. Silly, I know but they feel comfortable and supportive. (and they're black)

No crocs down south!!

Crocs are by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever played pool in. More and more players in our area are following my lead on these.
Never seen anyone wear crocs playing pool, but heh we are kinda old school down here in the south. Okla. Texas. I have some, but the first time I wore them people made fun of me, and that was family! They are my house shoes now. My sister lives in Oregon and I visited her a couple of months ago. Beautiful state, awesome scenery, but I want to pump my own gas. You can't pump your own gas in Oregon. Whats that all about??

An interesting topic and I have learned a few things over the years. Playing pool requires a flat footed stance for long term consistency. I tend to be athletic having played tennis, volleyball and other sports that require you to be on your toes for quick coordinated movements such as three meter diving boards. I took up playing pool in my 40s and one of the first things I learned was to stand on my heels or at least flat footed.

Next I found that my narrow feet are not really made for playing pool where a solid platform is required. I found a big difference when I played in my penny loafers and when I played with sneakers. It seems the sneakers are built to support lateral movement. That is if I place left or right pressure on the side of my feet the sneakers are better at absorbing the movement and help to keep me in one place by providing a better foundation.

However, I feel kinda dorky with sneakers and dress slacks so I went looking for something else that cushion my feet like sneakers but have a little better look to them. Never have found anything that works well and looks “good.”

Next we moved to Florida where many of the guys here where Crocks. Now Crocks sure are less than elegant but they have the same cushion effect that a pair of sneakers have. In addition, they are very light (less than 6 oz or so). To date they are my favorite for pool playing.

My final solution was to get what my kids call old man sneakers. The ten dollar pair from Wal-Mart: The ones with the Velcro straps. They are so cheap that I have a black pair and a white pair to wear as needed. While they are extremely cheap and trashy looking they are better than anything else for support and for long term consistency. Recently I played for about six hours in a pair of expensive penny loafers and found that my heel hurt for about the next two days. There is something to be said for cushioned shoes over long periods of play.

I would suggest trying to play for a few hours in your good Florsheims as compared to a pair of wider cushioned shoes. I found a big difference in consistency over a few hours of play. I suspect that people with “normal” feet such as “D” width may not have the problems I have with my “AAA” width.

I thought that law was pretty cool, and I didn't have to pay extra for the service.

I did feel sorry for the Oregonian who drove to Los Angeles and expected the same service.

At first I thought he was afraid of the Bloods and Crips....

Just bought some awsome shoes for pool yesterday. Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd dig up this one. It's a new shoe by Clark's that surprised me.

They are very comfortable, come in both black and brown, are super light weight, and made of leather. A really good blend of sporty and casual. They are a very new design. I got them in the store, but you can get them on line here:

Seriously, these things are so light, it's hard to believe they are in the box when you pick it up. lol

Thanks for ressurecting this old thread. The price is right on those too, T. Let u/me know how they feel after spending a couple of days at a pool tournament. Thanks.

I recently migrated over to some "walking shoes" by New Balance. They are very heavy, but super comfortable over a long period of time. more on the expensive side by you can buy them for less than the list price. Here's a link: I got the black to keep up with Sunnyone's rule of foot and so that I could wear them in tournaments without concern. http://www.shopnewshoes.com/new-balance-MW927BK/
I have the 2E width. I don't seem to notice the extra weight but the support of a walking shoe kind of surprised me. It's my newest shoe and the favorite out of all the ones i have tried.

New Balance, only tennis shoe I will ever wear again. American Made also.

They make good shoes, but they also have the widest toe box in the industry. Even though they make narrows, people with narrow feet often have a hard time wearing them.

If I make it to the second day, I'll let you know right away. lol

Those New Balances look pretty comfortable. I got the black ones I listed before in full compliance with Sunnyone's rule. :D

Shoes are a pretty subjective thing. If there is a JC Penny around, at least you can check these out. Roy mentioned in an earlier post that some tournaments he plays in require black leather shoes and these fit the bill nicely. For me they feel like I can run a mile in them.

IMO the best shoes for standing and walking are Mephisto walking shoes. Expensive but great for support and comfort.:)

All the Best,

Frank

I thought I remembered that Mephisto shoes don't come in wide....?
