Earl refused to be interviewed by Nick Varner after the match was over.

I heard Johnny saying, "I was only kidding".

What was it that he said that ticked Earl off?

The interview with Johnny was interesting and Johnny spoke well of Earl during the post interview.

A side note: NIck Varner was outstanding with his commentary as class, as usual.

I'd be curious to hear what it was that Johnny said and what the forum members think about it.

I heard Earl answer Johnny and say something like, "I didn't shark you" but I can't be for sure.
Then I heard Johnny tell Nick, "I was just kidding" or "I was just playing"...

It don't take much to set him off so who knows...lol

After the 10 ball last night they interviewed johnny. Earl threw a fit and said see, everybody hates me. They talk to him after he wins, but they didn't interview me after i won the 8ball. Mark tried to tell earl he was to be interviewed next, and earl said he didn't want to be interviewed. It makes me dizzy just thinking thinking about it. Earl is an amazing talent, too bad he has to be the way he is.

With the players wearing microphones you could not only hear the stress of a big money match but you could almost feel their heartbeats. The tension in the room was huge, not so much between Earl and Johnny but between the players and the table. The closer the guys got to the end of the match the more likely a mistake was going to happen.

Johnny handled the loss with humor and grace, he gave praise to Earl and showed sportsmanship. I am a Earl fan but JA won me as a new fan today. Johnny = Class Act.

Earl rules. He is the ultimate carnie. All you rubes getting heated over his antics are playing into him.

I was there. Earl thought the whole crowd was against him. Cheering for Johnny more than him. Thinking everyone was trying to shark him, complaining about any little movement. Telling the crowd he does not feel welcome. He can't hear with earplugs/headphones so when people laugh, the thinks its all directed *at* him. It's ridiculous.

Earl, see a doctor. Fix that ill with a pill.

According to Earl, he's the greatest athlete in the world. I don't know how many times I heard him say that this weekend

Earl was standing there (beside Nick) to be interviewed until Johnny made his comment.

Here is a heads up, that jag-off Earl will act the same just like a little d-bag during the next big 10 Ball tournament in Dallas. Just the same old story, over and over. Then there will be another 20 threads filled with his nut huggers, excuse makers, star struck morons, apologists, and clowns that want to compare pool to golf :rotflmao1:

Nice to see Big Bubba Putnam tell it like it is and how the players have to resort to policing themselves by finally having enough of this clown.

Let's give the guy a break. After two high tension days and a last minute save because of Johnny's mistake on position (198th ball), Earl was probably full of emotion. I know that I would be. His heart was probably pounding when making that break shot after Johnny scratched, and continued pounding until the last 8 balls were in after breaking. Perhaps he just wasn't up to an interview. Perhaps he was choked-up (and who wouldn't be after winning). And there were a lot of people rooting for Johnny. How cruel was someone in the audience cheering when Earl missed a shot due to skidding? Here on the forum there were threads touting Johnny as winning. Both players were great. Let's be satisfied with seeing a terrific match with tremendous play by both contestants. Why do some people have to continue to throw rocks.

Great match

Earl may have some strange ways but to get up and run over 100 balls when losing badly showed what kind of talent & heart Earl Strickland has.
He is a true champion but he is high strung and sometimes overreacts. This was a great pool match by both guys, and Johnny really did show a ton of class in his losing effort. I enjoyed Nick's commentary but Big Bubba was way out of line with his continued jabs at Earl, he should not have accepted to do the commentary if he hates Earl as he obviously does.

I second that emotion. . . good post

Earl was actually very well behaved compared to the Shane match in which he was off his rocker crazy. Its amazing the guy can play so good and be so manic. I think Shane hit it right when he said that he thinks Earl has a hard time handling the pressure and its like a defense mechanism that he has developed. Either way he is fun to watch and is playing some of the best pool he has played in a long time. On that 10 footer he is going to be tough to beat. Line up the Pinoys cause it does'nt look like an American can beat him on that big table.

Well said

Great post , as my grandmother said , If you don't have something good to say keep it to yourself .It shows lack of character to character assasinate others.

Between smokes I bet.

People keep talking about his smoking, ever heard of fred biletnikoff?
6x pro bowl selection, 6x all pro selection, super bowl champion and MVP
and smoked 2 packs a day...did i mention he was a wide reciever!

I know basketball players and tennis players who smoke and are still great athletes.

I used to mountain bike with 2 guys that smoked every time we stopped. They were animals on the trail too. Never could understand it. lol
