On an average afternoon or evening, playing a friend, or freinds, 14.1 straight pool, either home or at your local pool room, lets say 3 games of 100 points each.

How many balls do you absolutely expect to run in at least one of those games, and feel you were off your game if you didn't do it?

Pretty ironic, wouldn't you say? :p

All funnin' aside, I'd have to say that I *expect* a 42-ball run (3 racks) in at least one of those games, or else I consider myself "off" my game. Sure, we all have those racks where we're concentrating more on busting clusters, having to play safe because making the shot / attempting to force something out of nothing is a fruitless endeavor, but in 3 races to 100, I personally would expect myself to get a 3-rack run in there *somewhere*.

Although, if I didn't, I wouldn't necessarily call the night a failure. Many times -- especially on foreign equipment / new place -- you're not quite as comfortable as your home room / table, and you're "silently" distracted. In that case, I look at individual points in the 3 races, and pick out things I consider I did well. This way, when you leave for home, you don't feel like you were a failure because you didn't maintain what you consider to be "your norm."

Hope that helps,
-Sean

I voted 30 - 40, basically 3 racks although possible I would start my first rack partially in after an opponent miss, safety, etc. When I was playing straight pool more it wouldn't be unusual to have a run of 40 - 50 or more within an evening, but I'll be conservative... :)

I'd also like to think I could get at least a 3 rack run somewhere in 3 100 point games.

Whenever I practice, my goal is to get a 50.

if you can't do 50 + something is floating around between your ears and it is not your game plan.

I'm in your boat Scott. These days I play about 6 to 8 hrs a week, and unfortunately it's usually when I can, not when I'd like to. It's interesting to see where we are all at. :)

You make it sound so easy. If you CAN do 50+ just about every time you get to the table, then you belong in New Jersey this fall.

my problem in 14.1 is the breakshots, I don't lay good on them, I don't execute them very well, but then again i'm fairly new to this whole game........ I run balls good, but when i'm at the last 3 balls, I either come wrong on breakshot, or if i come OK, I will hit it in a weird fashion and miss it & splash the rack.

LMAO. I was gonna say... if you can't do 300 + something is floating around between your ears and it is not your game plan.

I guess I have higher standards of what "good" than you.
