Hack Jobs:

Come on fellas ... the guy insisted that his 11mm tips be installed on his 13mm ferrules ... what else could be done?

The customer is always right.

Beyond the point of no return.
And the customer paid for it? I do believe that if he has hung his shingle out for business that it might just be his last tip job, in that town anyway.

I'd be willing to bet that a blind person could learn how to do a better job with about a half hours practice.

Nice job on the fix up tho Randy. I think you just added one customer to your list.
What kind of tip is that?

Kamui Black Med..

Ferrule was Juma rod, drilled and tapped for 5/16-18.

Original ferrule was non capped slip on....it was .340 or something like that. I turned it down and live threaded the tenon.

This cue was part of the "stealth cue program" that was damaged during play, and had to be scuttled before ending up in enemy hands. That ferrule is now on it's way to China for research, and mass replication. :D

I asked him why he paid and felt compelled because the repairman had done things for him before....I said that shouldn't matter..

Anyway I spoke with the man who did the repair and he agreed to give a refund.

I did the work for 20.00(yah, that is really cheap and would normally be 50.00.....I really felt bad for this young man), so he essentially is getting a new ferrule and Kamui black for 20.00.

Let me tell you something.......

I have been playing pool since the late 60's and I have change my tips myself for all those years. I used the best glue available at the time and then hand shaped it with a file and sand paper. I admit they were not perfect but they did play just fine.

I never did a hack job even close to that one and if I did, I would never have taken it out in public or shown anyone.

Now I change my tips on my lathe and they are perfect.

Well he must have gave 110% to that repair (oops Hack job) because you couldn't screw it up much better than that.
Is that a Pro taper on that ferrule?

He may have been trying for a reverse bell shaped ferrule, like some old old Brunswick had. Only thing he got a little carried away with the die grinder

I normally don't critique other people's work, but this was a joke. Not only did the guy HACK the cue, but still charged 15.00 for the tip job.

I fixed it....new ferrule and tip later...

I got this clip from another thread.

This is actually par for the course for most billiard supplies people take their cues to. They have just some guy or girl here who does repairs who doesn't have a clue.

This guy in this clip at least does have a lathe but I don't think I would be giving him my ivory ferrule shaft for a tip.

The first one, a bench grinder. Everyone has a bench grinder right.
Everyone is now a qualified repairman.

No safety glasses.

I did learn a lesson about taking tips off with a pair of pliers also.
Me not do that anymore.

> I saw the end result of both of these.

He was burnishing the tip he installed on a Predator shaft and he let the leather get way too hot and the ferrule was GONE. Then he was going to cover the mistake by installing old-school paper fiber like a house cue.

On another Predator,he tried to take a facing cut with the ferrule 6" out of the chuck, unsupported. When the cutter made contact and dug in,he managed to remove the entire ferrule/tube assembly, another 1/2 of tube length and wood. Unfortunately,I couldn't save that one. Tommy D.

I would pay money to see that.
Some just have no idea at all.

You missed her feedback.

Thanks for the feedback

1) a le pro tip is a hard tip mainly for breaking cues, some use an elk master if they want more draw or control on the ball because it's softer
