Here's a fresh 5 point, 5 veneer one, though it's retro in style
with actual cortland wrap.

Here's a pair of Mike's wrapless cues with ultra joint.
They play great and are pretty nice looking. The case's are
a 1/1 Ron Thomas and a Brunswick/George 1/1

Something to do with humidity changes on cues shipped to Japan.

The tolerances are what I would call a "press fit" to use
machinist terms.

When I screwed my previous ultra joint II cue together the
last couple of turns gave a compression fit squeeking sound
which makes for one hell of a tight connection, and I believe
the secret to his famous hit.

Apparently he had some joint splitting issues on Ultra II's shipped
to Japan,(correction: no joint splitting issues, the wood swelled up
in the humidity and made them real hard to screw all the way together)

so he went back to his original ultra joint.

Perhaps drpjr could share some insight on this, however
I do not believe there has been any issue on ultra II's that
stayed in the USA.

The story on the ULTRA 2 is 2 fold. 1) The tight tolerances did create a problem when shipped to Japan. But they never failed (no splitting), the Japanese customers found it to hard to squeeze the joint tight enough to fully seat it. Some of them even tried to sand the shafts tennon to ease the fit which ruined the fit. 2) Mike and the majority of customers prefer the play of the original.

If there is trouble like that will Mike replace the ultra 2 with
the original ulta joint even if im not the original owner.

There isn't trouble at all --- they said the humidity in Japan made it a little harder to screw together. Some people prefer the ultra1 --- but I have the ultra2 and I think my cue hits like a raped ape.

You'd be crazy to do anything to your cue, imo.
