Love the Gus, and it is interesting you Carry Your Prized in a Swift, but I understand as Dennis Builds a TANK of a CASE.
the picture shows dark marks on the forearm. That is the light reflecting off the grain. When you see this gus in person it doesnt look like that. Lots of miles on this cue. It has been with me since 1999 and the cue has been in action as well as tournaments both locally and in vegas.

That's just the cat's ass, man.
Pretty neat the way quarter sawing maple leaves that reflective bit of wood on either side of the piece. It happens when the medullary rays of the tree are split.
Your camera just caught the rays the right way to light 'em up!
Some guys refer to it as the "spine" in shaftwood.

Thats so great!! What a cue. Gus sure could build a cue. I dont think there will ever be a cue maker at his level ever. He built the best cues ever with Sears tools, 40 years later they are 20+ times their original price. Play better than ever(old wood) and never look dated or go out of style. I cant imagine any current cue makers cues selling for 20 times their current price, BlackBoars will never sell for $400,000-$600,000 in my life time if ever-not a knock i love Tony and his cues(the economy could push up prices with inflation, but not that much-i hope).
Gus taught many of todays top cue makers, where would cues be if pool didnt have Gus? His contribution to pool is deep. Barry has honored and maintained the tradition and is building the best cues in the world.
I love seeing people play with Gus's cues, I use mine at home from time to time, one I use more often than the rest, it was Ray Martins cue. When I get old and pass away I'm giving it to Rays Grand Kids, they tracked me down and I made that promise to give the family back Ray's cue. It feels very similar to my daily player I like to use it often. But the cue should be in their family and it will be in time.
The only reason I dont use a Gus full time is if I lost it travelling, It cant be replaced. If the TSA ever gets their heads out of their asses and let us carry on our cues or I buy my own jet-then I would switch over to a Gus full time, I havea 8pt Gus thats amazing. Its not to loaded up either.

Looks very similar to Kim Davenports Gus he used for about 23 years. when I see this cue pictured or Kims I wonder how many millions of $$$'s have been won and lost with the cue. Its millions. I know I watched Kim play with his Gus in the mid-late 80's for $1000's in action constantly. Kims cue has 5 shafts and probably another 5-10 that are history. the wrap on these played hard cues gets so nice feeling the more play the better the wrap feels. Kims cue has the best wrap of any cue I ever felt in my life and I have a Bushka I wish I knew the history of as its seen play like Davids Gus or Kims Gus. If the cues could talk....
this is 2 posts in a row about Gus, I didnt finish the thread when I made my last post about Gus and his cues being played with. I posted it and saw David's cue(that is a great pic, the light was perfect)
IMO it dont get any better than the old Gus's, They are my favorite cues. Hands down. Then it gets complicated for me to say what I like next the best. Bushkas or Barry etc. I cant define 2nd place but Gus is #1.
did I mention I like Gus's cues?:thumbup:

I was in Atlanta a few years back for a tournament and shipped it Fedex. Fedex lost the cue for 60 hrs but eventually found it. Holy crap was I on TILT. I just cant deal with so much drama, waiting to see if the cue will be lost or stolen. So the last few times I have traveled where I have to fly, I have taken a scruggs titlist instead. If the Gus was stolen or lost I would just be on max tilt the whole time I was out of town, and then some later when I got back home. Not going there anymore....
I couldnt stand it if I lost a Gus.
So I play with something thats replaceable. I dont see the TSA backing off their rules and ever allowing cues on commercial flights ever again. Sux
