Fans and Vendors on the ABP boycott of Behrman events

I would attend whether they are there or not.

This whole thing is silly. The U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship is one of the most sought-after titles that a professional pool player, whether American or a member of our international brethren, could ever hope to achieve.

Personally, some of the best matches I've seen aren't necessarily pro players, but rather, they're salamanders or shortstops who can dance on a field of green as good as the best of 'em. So just because a pool player is wearing that ABP patch on his shirt doesn't mean he's going to play pool at a level that surpasses all others.

I agree that the pro players should get some respect, and on this forum in particular, some of the written words about so-called "pro players" have been quite cruel.

One day, pool may be a highly respected sport, but it ain't happening right now. Negotiations should occur behind the scenes, not in public, between the ABP and Barry Behrman. Paying monies due could be worked out with a mere written agreement containing a date certain, if there are monies owed to anyone at this time.

Barry Behrman is a good man, and the ABP members are professionals trying to elevate pool to a higher plain. Together, certainly, they should be able to reach an amicable agreement. There might have to be a few give-and-takes, but that's how it goes in settlements.

Who won't be attending Behrman sponsored events if the ABP players are not playing in it?

how many threads are you going to start on this subject?

It's a bit odd, that you seem so concerned about this, but yet I'm sure none of the below apply to you...

you're never going to play in it

you don't have a personal relationship with a player/vendor/promoter/janitor that is associated with this event

you probably have never gone to the Open, and never will

you have absolutely no financial interest in this situation

you probably have never dropped a penny towards the event, buying dvd's streams, etc

if I"m wrong on any of the above, I aplogize, but I think you get my drift.

It's ok man... everything will be all right...

Here ya go.... this will help you get thru the trauma you're experiencing right now.

I would go if I had the chance, whether the ABP players were there or not.

Actually, it might be more fun to watch it unfold without those guys, especially if a bunch of the lady pro's enter this year. (As opposed to last year, where there was a major conflicting event overseas that prevented a lot of the big names from playing, if I remember correctly.)

Im only a few hours from the tourney and Ive never been to one so im thinking about making the trek down there. What all goes on besaide the pool playing? Any other activities going on?

2011 US Open

LOL ...... OK, all you on that ABP list stay home. Now, I'm putting my money on Earl Strickland to win another US Open 9 Ball Championship.

I think Barry should remove his generous offer to pay the entry fee for previous winners of the US Open if they are also members of the ABP. That has been a more than generous offer that many of those ABP members have taken avantage of for more than just a few years.

what some people don't understand

One thing many people don't understand is: without the weaker players in a tournament, the tournament won't happen. There might be only 5-10 players that might be able to win the tournament, but without the rest of weaker players paying, there would be no money. One more thing Archer made a comment recently at a tournament after a weaker player beating him...he had no right playing on the same table with me ???? Sorry, at least this guy spent his own hard earned money to play in the tournament. About some of the newer rules about lucking balls in, and 2 way shots, you take that away the chance of a thrilling finish when the guy kicks for the ball and it goes in another pocket, or caroms the 9 ball while trying a 2 way shot, and gets to knock of a Pro Player. Another, switch breaks, the exciting part of 9-Ball or 10-Ball is seeing someone down 6-2 and then running out the set or going hill-hill. just my opinion...newer rules make the matches go longer also. One more thing, I think the title of: US OPEN 9-BALL CHAMPION, has a lot more to it then the money. I know Barry has had his issues, but you'll have a hard time finding anyone that has put more effort in running these big " OPEN Tournaments "...it's just Barrys' tongue gets ahead of his brain and each year he tries to step it up over last years, and probably don't notice sometimes that he over played his hand until it's too late. Barry has also done many things in the past for the Pool Players take for granted...free entry for life..green jackets, etc. I think Barry needs to sit down with someone that can help him restructure his payout money to an extent that doesn't hurt him and I bet the field still shows up with lower payouts...because they want be be called something nobody can ever take away from them..."US OPEN 9-BALL CHAMPION "

Snip...

That's a terrific idea.

Yes, I usually set up a Kissing Booth outside the Convention Center on the 1st and 3rd days of the event.

I think Barry should only cover entry fees of players who have either:

a) won the tournament in the last five years
b) won the tournament two or more times
c) is in the BCA Hall of Fame.

or

d) he covers them for the very next tournament ONLY if they won the previous one. Basically the Returning Champion ONLY gets comp'ed.

Everybody else pays their own way. I mean, he is still covering Mike LeBron, isn't he?

Geez!

Barry's Cable Coverage Deal

Not sure how much that stock will be worth once the TV network learns none of the top players are coming. I dont think Accu-Stats would want to spend time and money to film unknown players

In Barry's statement on runout radio he has revealed inside information on an upcoming deal, to sell the rights to broadcast his event to a major station/broadcaster.

That could mean national exposure if you buy one of those board ads at the tv table.

This is making the US Open look better then ever. As a business advertiser I could careless about the players that play, as long as my ad gets to be on cable during a pay per view event possibly.

The news releases are making planning my future schedule more challenging than ever.

I got to get some stock in the company buying those rights or are in talks, because when the deal goes through the stock will jump at least a few points.

That is the type of common sense that is what is missing in today's forum posts, some basic cause and effect.

I hope accu-stats releases a statement about Barry's intention on closing a deal with them.

I dont think Accu stats is considering Barry owes him money.
In fact, I think Mark Grifin negotiated a deal for TAR and for Diamond in the US Open 9. That is probably why JUstin and Mark have been so critical of the pros and ABP.
They have an agenda and this obviosuly affects them. We dont blame them for trying.
