God I hope all of you really dont go, because it will have 256 and a waitlist most likely, and it will allow someone a great payday that may not get it otherwise. Probaly will be the best thing for pool if you all dont show.
Stick to your guns Barry, dont go for thier B.S. , let em stay home and let an unknown or 2 get thier career highlights possibly.

I'd like to actually chime in on this because I was thinking about it.

I totally think the open would be just as entertaining without the top players. There is a lot of good pool everywhere now, I bet the actual level of play would only decrease a tad without them. Would I miss seeing the best player that ever lived do some ungodly kicking move that nobody else in the world could do? In a word, yes, but again, I feel the pool would be just as high quality for the most part. I think the main ingredient for great pool is a will to win by the competitors.

What we see in college football could be a good example, maybe not as talented, but many prefer to watch these players as they have a bit more fire in them.

So, I guess that means i'm with the op. Stay home. If nothing else we'll get to see how much leverage the players have.

I would like to see Barry change the event to AMATEUR players only and you have to qualify to get in. Not this year but next year if the ABP decides not to show.

It will definitely be different if they don't show, but I am betting several on the list will be there... And if the Asians and Middle Eastern players know that the ABP is boycotting they may just hop a plane... There were 13 Middle Eastern players that came over 2 years ago...

If the highlighted part were true, we wouldn't be having this standoff.

I agree with the OP. It would be the nuts to see it snapped off by a normal dude.

The level of pool prob wont change a damn bit. Actually with amateurs I bet Barry and company make way more money cause the amateurs are the ones with the cashhhhh

Disagree..... Barry had to scratch until the last minute to get 256 last year...... If they boycott the title might as well have an asterisk beside it because it's not a true US Open field..... Remember when the NFL had "replacement players".....Not to mention ticket sales..... Ask yourselves who draws the biggest crowds each year and then look down that list....Outside of Earl there most of the big draws are part of the ABP...... I understand both sides stances but have to give the upper hand to the ABP.

I appreciate your thoughts, but I totally disagree. There are many tournaments held today in which the so-called "pros" have to spot the lesser skilled players in the event. Everybody loves to pull for the underdog. Well, at least I know I do. :p

With the lady pros attending the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, there will still be first-class talent in the house. Whenever I have been to a mixed pool tournament, such as, say, Joss/Turning Stone in Verona, NY, everybody in the crowds most definitely is pulling for the ladies, sweating their matches, not giving the so-called "male pros" very much attention. Even the people that work at the casino come to the arena to watch the lady pros strut their stuff on a field of green. They're a big attraction.

If the ABP doesn't show this year, there will still be Earl and t hose who follow the beat of their own drum that will show up to play pool. Barry should get rid of all seeding and free entry fees from here on in. He should also raise the entry free for anybody associated with the ABP to $600, if paid early, and $700 on the day of the event for all the grief and drama this whole brouhaha is causing. JMHO, FWIW!

Oh, really? Then call my opinion "assine," because I disagree. :kma:

You have written several times on this forum that you have attended multiple Turning Stone Casino tournaments on the Joss Tour. I'm not sure which Turning Stone events you've been to, but the ones I've been to, the majority of the railbirds and crowds draw near to the lady pros. The U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship now is a mixed field of players. ;)

Surely it is make your mind up time for Barry. If he procrastinates for much longer he could end up with the worst of all worlds, No ABP players because they failed to reach an agreement and no other players because it is too late to make travel arrangements.
Right now, I would imagine there are quite a lot of players worldwide who are waiting to see who is in the field before committing themselves to take a shot at glory.

It would also put an end to the HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS CAN I SAY THE SAME THING CONTEST that has been running on these forums for the last few weeks

I am trying to understand this scenario You pay your entry fee,you play, you win yet you have to wait to get your prize money ??????? Why?????????? Is it wrong to want to get payed in the same manner in which you payed your fee,s??????? All monies should be paid at the end of the tournament. These accusations of players not being paid ,lets put this to rest. Players come forward and name yourselves, put it all on the table and clear this mess up.

I agree totally with JAM! Barry has devoted his life to this event, why should he have to pay for past winners entries. I bet some of them would not even come if their entry was not paid for them.

If I were the player that the APB players were, I would gladly invest 1000.00 to try and win 40,000. Even if you took 6 months to get paid..."What a return on your money".

I really feel there many be hundreds of AMATEURS that can play just as well as the ABP boys. Sure, the ABP guys are exciting to watch, but so is the unknown "hustler" can comes in to town also!

my ts experience is that only happens when the lady pro is playing a top tier male pro. nothing against the ladies b/c i love to watch them play but if its a choice btwn karen playing someone and SBV or Mika playing then more of the spectators are watching the guy play. so yes respectfully (if that is even possible) i am calling your opinion assine as well which i thought was implicit since you seem to be in agreement with the OP that somehow the us open would be better off is the ABP pros didnt play. its not the first time we have disagreed JAM and it wont be the last either i am sure.

Thanks for your thoughts. You have such a pleasant way of expressing yourself.

I'm so happy to be friends with most, if not all, of the Turning Stone peeps, to include the Joss Tour folks. These are good folks that I enjoy talking with. They're polite and know how to express themselves in colloquy without insulting anyone.

*That* right there is funny. :rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

But your prior statement, I must agree. For those traveling from overseas, it is necessary to make travel arrangements well in advance.

BTW, I just read that the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) isn't able to charge taxes, beginning today, in air flights. Some airlines have not raised their rates quite yet, and it is possible to get a significantly reduced rate beginning today without that added FAA tax. ;)
