Dear Experienced Members,

I'm not sure if my shaft is suppose to be like this, or if it's a manufacturing defect. (the stock everest tip already half came off because it was not glued well, no wonder it felt weird hitting balls)

Can someone tell me if OB will warranty this or should? Again, I'm new to this so I don't know how shafts are suppose to be.

I have called them and I will be shipping it off tomorrow. What usually happens in this case? Do I pay for shipping there and they cover return shipping, or do I need to pay shipping both ways?

I hate to say it but it looks like a scratch. Most companies will not pay for the shipping their but will pay for return shipping. Keep in mind that %60 of what comes back to companies is miss use, miss care or just bad luck. But good luck, Royce's company is a stand up company and I am sure they will do something to help you out.

Good luck!

It's delamination or a split in the wood itself. It happened to one of my OB shafts too - in the same spot in fact, but it's not very common. It first appears as a dark line in the
new shaft, then it slowly opens up after playing for awhile - probably the impact loosens it. Seems the wood in certain cases is defective and will not hold the glue.

The funny thing is, the crack in mine didn't affect the hit, sound, feel or play one bit - so I didn't bother doing anything with it.

My experience is OB stands behind their stuff.

OB will stand behind there product. i would doubt you will have to pay a thing.

Why did you post this before talking to them? The problem is obvious.

They are absolutely great in standing behind their product!

Thanks for everyone's comments, it wasn't obvious to me, and I thought I'd post it after my tip came off today.

Wasn't sure if it was the delam or the pores of the wood, cuz it looked like little channels. I'll remove the pictures, but this is my first pool RMA and I wanted to know what my rights were as a customer and what's reasonable/ usual.

I hope you come back and make a post after Royce and his crew take care of your problem. It is preferable to give companies the opportunity to serve you before going public with your concern. Especially one that does as much to support the game as OB does.

Thanks for posting. Good thread. Every reply was positive and supports OB. I might buy an OB. Good to know they stand behind their stuff.

I agree that the best situation is to contact the manufacturer, but it seems in this instance he was asking if this was a manufacturer issue. He wasn't going public saying they have bad service or the product is bad. It seems that the thread only reinforces what many already know, that Royce and OB provide excellent service and will take care of their customers.

The post sounds more to me like a newer player who legitimately doesn't know if he has a problem or not.

It looks like a scratch. That defect isn't on a glue line -- it's in the middle of the wood laminate.

Scratch.

That's exactly what I thought. It's in between the lines and crooked, not straight like the glue lines. My Predator shaft did the same thing but, it was on the glue line, straight and dark because no wood was behind it. (I do know Predator and OB are constructed differently)Predator did send me a brand new one free shipping and all. The thing that's weird is where it starts at the ferrule, hard to get a scratch to start/stop there. Anyway, OB will take care of it. Post up what OB does for you in the end.

I already took off the rest of the pictures I originally had posted, but the line runs down the shaft, and it is the widest at the top. The more I look at it the more I am feeling that it might be delamination, I'm going to try to get this shipped today, does anyone have suggestions on how to document my issue should something go wrong?

Zerius,

no offense but stop being so anal, Royce and Co. will take good care of you. There are 100s of people on this board that can back me up.

Thanks

Dan

When I worked at Predator I saw tons of these. It's usually caused when the shaft runs down the cloth like on a draw shot over a chunk of chalk on the table. Since the wood is softer than the ferrule it starts at the base and runs down through getting smaller as the shaft lifts off the table.
