You are forgetting Sylver Ochoa. It's a very strong player all around.

So very true!

Thanks, Taco, for the addition. I like the way this list is growing. The more the merrier, I say, and the better the future looks for American professional pool!

Should put Jesse Bowman in the mix.

I had thought about Jesse Bowman. Is he under 30? I know he took a little pool hiatus and was out in Vegas, but I have not heard much about him in recent times. Is he hitting 'em again? If so, that's great. I was told he's a really, really good barbox player, maybe one of the best in the country at one time.

I only met Jesse once when he made a cameo appearance at the Super Billiards Expo in Valley Forge, PA. I think it was in 2004, if memory serves me right. A few people didn't know who he was when he entered the Action Pit, but my other half whispered in my ear to bet on Jesse when he was at the table. I won a little cheese betting on Jesse. He had a run in the Action Pit. ;)

He was kind enough to allow me to snap his photo, but I'll shield him in this thread just in case he's on the road traveling incognito! :D

Not sure of Jesse's age, JAM. He's involved in a pool room biz in Iowa.
Yes he's playing. On a bar box he's a 9 ball monster. Runs like water... and quick. Hear he's very strong on the big table, too.

I don't think these guys will ever go anywhere.

That's not a very nice thing to say, Whitewolf. I'm not sure why you'd think that, either.

I don't know Matt very well, but I've seen Shawn quite often at various pool events. He's got a hell of a break, and his allegiance to pool is evident if you were to ever talk to him. I see Shawn's star continuing to rise!

Are you suggesting that I sugar coat my opinion? They are very nice people, but in the company of the other young rising stars they are just regular Joe's without that much talent. Besides, since you asked, I hate Shawn's little short jab stroke. I respect what he has done with it, but I just can't stand to watch it. He just doesn't have that natural flow, you know, like Keith does.

thats a interesting assesment but to say they are regualr joes is way off base,,how much natural ability did pete rose have,, I could name a dozen pro players that dont have the ability of a danny green or a ryann McCreesh, yet make a living at shooting pool
Did u have a problam watching hopkins win world titles with his short stroke ,, arnold palmer and lee travino certainly did not have jacks swing but they were by no means regular joes ,

I think you have to have Raymond Linares (just won ACUI nationals) and Brendan Crockett (all around great player for his age) pool.

I'm not suggesting you should sugar-coat your opinion at all. It is difficult for me to understand why you think he's not as talented as some of the names on the list.

I can tell you this. We were in Maine one year, and Danny Basavich was wanting to gamble with Keith, but Keith knew Danny's break was powerful. Guess who Keith picked to be his partner? He could have chosen anybody in the joint, but he went with Shawn. And this dynamnic duo scored the almighty win. Keith said Shawn had a good eye. From what I observed -- and I've seen Shawn shoot many times -- there wasn't one ball that Shawn couldn't get on. ;)

There's a lot of people that don't like Keith's chicken-arm stroke, but he makes it work. Everybody doesn't have the textbook fundamentals, and I believe that you don't have to have textbook fundamentals to succeed in pool. It's all about consistency and mental strength. If you don't have self-confidence and a strong belief in your abilities, it doesn't matter how pretty you shoot pool. Fundamentals are cool, but there's something to be said about the power of positive thinking. Shawn has already exhibited he's capable of championship-quality pool. He's accumulated a few tin cups in his short career, and he ain't done yet!
