Its been a long time my story was put in ink...this is the one Mary Kenniston helped me with... its LONG so you really may want a cup of coffee and a time when your ready to relax.
Hope it inspires you all to press on in your game...you can see World Champs come in all shapes and sizes...
Enjoy!

Robin

That was an EXCELLENT pool read, Robin. I had not known about a lot of the things that were mentioned in that article. I always wondered how Mary got that nickname. So you're "Bankroll," huh?

Ewa Laurance became “The Striking Viking,” Vivian Villareal became “The Texas Tornado,” LoreeJon Hasson became “The Queen of the Hill,” Belinda Calhoun became “The Texas Belle,” Mary Kenniston became “Nightmare” and I got the nickname “Bankroll.” Why? I always seemed to rise to the top when there were large purses. I wasn’t afraid to win the cash…I was focused."

What a crew you five made. I bet when you-all walked in the tournament rooms, there was a lot of rubber-necking!

Pro9.co.uk did a brilliant job on this interview. It is amazing to me that a guy from the other side of the pond was able to capture all of these delicious pool facts about an American pro. In fact, I am going to go so far as to say that it is the best pool interview I've read in a very long time.

Well done! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Robin, Great article. So the pool hall you grew up in is very close to the In-an Out? I used to work on westminster in the mid 80's. Are you still giving lessons in that area?
Steve

I thought loreejon"s maiden name was ogonowski or something similar. Was she married before?

It was. (Oganowski) She married Sammy Jones, years ago. They moved out of Jersey, a while back. I believe Loree Jon recently got divorced and remarried.

Thank you

It was a nice read of an insightful interview; especially the part of how you got started and learning from those great players......

Mary really did a great job, she filled in all the gaps...she has excellent writing skills!
SCORE!!!

Robin, your pool story is the stuff that movies are made from. You should think about that. ;)

BTW, I would really enjoy reading an article about Mary K. I've only met her once in person, but I have heard so many good things about her. She's got spunk and character, my kind of gal!

I will bet when the two of you get together, you have fun reminiscing about your adventures. There's some cool pool tales just waiting to be shared! :D

I live in Garden Grove, about 15 minutes from Westminster Family Billiards.
I give lessons either at Danny K's or Lofflers...now call "15"

Robin, thanks for the PM on Facebook. I read the article as requested and came here to make a post and see you beat me to the punch. You did lie to me though --- it took wayyyyy more then just one cup of joe (lol). I could not stop reading. Excellent article, great interview by Dave Knight (Pro9), and Mary K came through yet again (amazing lady that one).

When you stated "I was lucky enough to be able to watch & learn from some of the best players in the world of that time" and started out with Cole Dickson I went "REALLY". Cole lived in Spokane for many years and I "teamed up" with him many times. A sad day when he left town cause things just died around here after that. Shortly after, Sterling "Smiley" Carter and other jam-up players like that left town too. I often wondered if that was because of the void left by Cole. We have talked many times and Cole's name never came up until now -- like they say, the pool world is small.

I am thankful for the PM as I would have hated to miss reading this. I've told you before and will tell you again -- you are an amazing person and a great asset to the sport. I still wish you would do some exhibitions/challenge matches with some of your old rivals/friends. We'd love it and your "special project" could u$e the help .

Respectfully as Always,

Bob
