Like most terms, colloquial or not, when U understand the orgin's of the phrase it normally makes perfect sense. So why is it Scotch Doubles?

Scotch Doubles was coined after the phrase "Dutch Date". Each party to pay their own way.

In Scotch Doubles each member of the team has to carry their own weight. Quite a different format from the old "partners" game.

In Texas it's usually the Gals who chose their partners, very carefully.

To the OP:

The response you received from RandyG is as accurate a response as you will get.

He was the originator of scotch-doubles (see his signature line).

Is it because both partners can wear skirts then? How about Canadian Doubles in Tennis?

I used to really enjoy playing scotch doubles. It's pretty fun if you can get 4 decent shooters together.

From drinking too much Scotch.:D

I duly apologize for my smart a$$ comment earlier. It truly was in jest.

I think that Mr. G. did a great thing by venturing forth with the SD format. It allows a fairly even distribution of table time for the 2 player team.

Me thinks it needs a patent.
