Yesterday I had the privilege to come to mnorwood's school, in Pasadena TX, and spend some quality time with three of his classes. First of all, I want to give HUGE props to Glen, aka RKC, for bringing Marcus four tables, and getting them set up for the kids to use. He really went above and beyond in his efforts to support Marcus's youth program. These were 6th, 7th and 8th grade kids, many of which have no opportunity to be exposed to pool any other way. In his 'after-school' program, he teaches these kids good stuff about pool, and allows them to have fun with it. I was able to demonstrate some techniques, do a few trickshots, and even have some of the kids try their hand at a trick shot or two. Later last evening I was the beneficiary of the Norwood family's generous hospitality for a home-cooked meal...something I miss a lot, when out on the road. The genuine affection that he has for his students is unmistakable, and they treat him with the utmost respect...as they did for me.
I would encourage ALL of you to donate some time to lend a hand to your local YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, or anywhere young people have an opportunity to get exposed to our fine sport. It costs you nothing, and the rewards for the children pay dividends beyond imagination. mnorwood's youth program is a model for other schools to follow, and he is an extremely dedicated teacher, who, like myself, loves what he does! I plan to come back again, the next time I am in the Houston area!
