Mini chop saw for ferrules and the like

If the ferrule is made of wax, sure.
I had one.

You probably put the blade on backwards Joey. You had one of these and it wouldn't cut 1/2 Juma and the like? Probably need a carbide blade for Ivorine 4.

You can mount a 3" blade on it without the guard, but a 2" blade with cut through 1/2 for sure.

I think that MicroMark sells blades for these toys.

Start treating tools that can take a good hunk of your finger off as toys and you'll be sorrrrry!!:D

Like I just told someone else, I could just make a jig with a stop for my bandsaw. I need to stop being lazy...

I saw this last time I was in Harbor freight and immediately thought it would be good for ferrules.

I've got one, brand-new in the box, never used. $25 shipped in conUS.
Before my current ring-cutter, I was brainstorming many different ways to cut
rings from billets. I wanted to look at it in my hands so I bought one.
Shortly thereafter, I decided that carbide was the route I wanted to go.
Anyway, it's for sale if anyone wants it.
Randy, it's your thread so you got 1st dibs.
KJ

PS. Remembering back, I think I was looking at mounting it on my lathe's compound
or somewhere on the carriage.

And all this time I thought a lathe was the perfect ferrule parting machine. :)

Randy,

Safety should be on your mind every time you make a move. I like your attitude about tools, it's very smart.

I agree with Tony, that tool is a toy. If you have a cue shop, you don't need one.

BTW, I am the biggest lazy ass. My ferrules come in a bag from Atlas already sized and faced.

Actually, a 'chucker' with automatic bar-feed and turret tail-stock
would probably cover the task nicely. Assuming you're going for production.
Bar-stock (LBM, etc.) feeds into the headstock, the turret center-drills, drills
to size, taps, bottom taps and faces. The cross-slide parts-off the finished ferrule.
All done without having to remove the mtrl from the chuck. Everything is concentric.
Yeah, those were the good `ol days.

Sorry Joey,
I'm stuck with a dial-up connection.
It would take a week to download a video.
Besides that, I don't want a 'flash' player.
Trust me, I've seen them in operation.
I've worked in & around machine shops probably 1/4 of my life.
KJ

Beau,
Where's the auto bar-feed???
Rockwell is a good machine.

Yah Yah.:)

With a ring cutter it is good and you don't lose very much material. If it is 1/8 it starts to add up after awhile. If you are trying to resell and cut 100 elforyn ferrules that is a foot of waste.

I just see this as a somewhat viable alternative....possibly.

Thanks for the offer KJ, but I have a HF about a 1/4 mile from my house and with my luck, whatever shipper got used would destroy it. My taper shaper still isn't 100% after UPS dropped kicked it all the way to my house.

Chris Hightower! I am mopping up the tears!!!!

The auto bar feed is really high tech. It is called my two fingers automatically pulling it up against the stop.
