Best and the Worst Billiards in RI

In the Providence area we have two Billiard Rooms.
One is the Best in the Country, one is probably one of the worse.

The problem is the best (especially in the Fall and Winter) is always in demand. It becomes increasingky more difficult to get table time as the weather gets colder.
This weekend due to a two day Tournament at the best, my Wife and I had to go to the worst to play. (we left after a half hour)

Even though the equipment is similar, the playability in the worse is awful.
Many people have spoken to him about getting the tables playable.
Due to the fact that he doesn't play. he has no idea how bad they are.
He does all his own repairs and doesn't listen when players tell him what is wrong.

FYI even though the best was packed, there was no one in the worst!
Just think of how he could be picking up customers just by listening and acting on what they say!
Best uses their AC(even when the doors are open), the worst to save money, open the doors, and let you sweat while you play.
All the ballls at the best are clean and are matched sets.
The worst is filthy and the balls don't match.

Final points, the best has FREE music!
The worst has a juke box, elevator music, or no music at all! The food at the best has a chef, the worst the food is awful.
I just can't believe the worst can't see what he's missing out on!

Having no music at all on a pool hall is only positive. No reason to loud music, juke box
 
The next time the best place is packed, go over to the worst and invite the owner to go look at what business COULD be like for him. or if he will not go, set up a webcam and brink a laptop over to the worst place and show him that way. It probably will not help any but at least you can make a point to him that business could be better.
 
Actually since there are no jobs around any longer maybe you can scrape some money together and make an offer to bad-owner to buy his place. Then you can fix it all up and run it the way you want and rake in the dough! Sounds like he is probably sick of it anyway. If it is who I think it is, he has been at it for a long time.

True Story

I visited one of those rooms a few years ago. I was standing next to the owner when the manager approached. He said that a few of the customers were complaining about it being too hot and could he turn the a/c on.

Owners reply: "F**k em!" ( this was said to a new manager.) Train them right, right from the beginning.

Another time the owner told me he really hated pool players. "They expected too much." "You know like having plenty of chalk for the tables." "Stuff like that."

I'm sure there are many more stories both good and bad about these rooms.

Maybe someone will even mention their names.
 
I've tried so many times to talk to the owner about at least making things better.
He thinks things are great the way they are.
He says that us Pool players are stealing his balls and damaging the tables.
Fixing Tables and supplying Chalk costs too much money.
I did hear that he would sell, but the price I heard is four times what it is worth.

I may be traveling to Providence and would really like to know the names of the good & the bad. I have found Rhode Island Billiards Club in North Providence & Snooker's in Providence. There are others listed in the surrounding areas but those are the only ones I found in Providence. Am I to assume that Snooker's is the good since they house the New England Hall of Fame?

I've traveled all over the country for work, and visited pool halls every where I went. Snooker's in Providence is easily one of the best rooms in the country. Here's why:

-Although I prefer Diamond tables, their Gold Crowns play perfectly.
-The place was always clean.
-The servers were friendly and attractive:D.
-The food was GREAT! (Try the meatballs!)
-The tournaments were well run.

Definitely deserves to be counted as one of the best pool rooms in the country!

Well that kinda narrows the choice down between "best and worst".
 
No question Snookers is the best -- and you can stretch your search area a lot wider than Rhode Island and still say that with confidence.

Another room not too far away is Bo's Billiards in Warwick. They also hold some tournaments. They might have more tables than Snookers, but Snookers is in a class of its own. Dechaine now plays out of Snookers -- having moved there from Maine because it is a great room with a lot going on.

I was at Snookers on a Wednesday night earlier this year and they had their weekly 9-ball tourney with 50 players. 50 players on a weeknight?!?!

Wednesday Night Tournament is one of the Best around.

You forgot to mention that the sparring partners are pretty cool too :D
 
Snookers, Bo's, RI Billiards, all pretty good. Although Bo's I have never played in but heard good things about it. I heard at some point Dave and Buster's had great tables but they either took them out or are gone now, or something.
 
Why all the secrecy?

I've been to Snooker's and I can say it's definitely the best without even knowing what other one is being referred to.

The Best

We all argee that Snookers is the Best!
It still leaves the problem of no place to play because Snookers is too busy!

Bo's is ok but kinda far away. :(

Which is why I was hoping that the "other" Pool room would get his act in gear and make his tables playable.
It's obvious that there is enough interest to make it worthwile.
In the winter just the overflow could make the place busy!
