USA TEAM RANKINGS

These are the current US team rankings, from the AZB main page.

1. Shane Van Boening 627.5
2. Mike Dechaine 541.5
3. Johnny Archer 455.5
4. Shawn Putnam 435.5
5. Rodney Morris 427.5
6. Corey Deuel 406.5
7. Dennis Hatch 365
8. Hunter Lombardo 354.5
9. Mike Davis 344.5
10. Charlie Williams 333.5
11. Earl Strickland 321.5
12. Stevie Moore 315.5
13. Jeremy Sossei 250.5
14. Oscar Dominguez 232.5
15. Brandon Shuff 226.5

It seems that Shane is a lock, but with the US Open being a ranking points event, who still has a mathematical chance to make the Mosconi cup team ?

I think that the only 2 that r a lock to be on the team as of now is svb and dechaine.

Since Johnny Archer and Shawn Putnam are working together on various entities together, I see these two making the cut.

Sometimes ranking points are helpful, but American pool politics behind the scenes has a way of effecting change at random, to include last-minute rule changes.

SVB, Dechaine and now Archer have done enough. So only Morris needs to go three rounds further than Putnam to get 4th place.

The latter would take up 5th spot unless another US player wins the Open. If this is not the case then there exists the possibility that Hatch may get a wikdcard.

I liked it better in the days when Matchroom picked the teams outright.

Then we might have seen SVB, Hatch, Strickland, Morris and Archer. They would have had some fire in their belly.

Yeah its evil Johnny and Shawn again. Bending Matchroom policies at will.

only the top 3 are picked through rankings afaik. Matchroom reserves two wild cards. and Shawn not being known for oozing charisma, I doubt he will be chosen.

Who do you think is getting in Jam?
Or who are you hoping for?
I would like to see Earl back...

The obvious choices as to who's the strongest player living in the United States today, to include being regarded highly by our North American representative (BCA) to the WPA, would be Shane, Brandon Shuff, Rodney Morris, Earl Strickland, and Mika Immonen.

Those would be my picks.

I wasn't aware Mika had switched to the USA's side, but that would be nice.

I would like to see the team SVB, Dechaine, Archer, Putnam and Deuel. I play out of Archers pool hall and get to see him and Putnam play often, so I'm pulling for both of them to make it. Deuel is one of my favorites from back when I first started playing so I'm partial to him making the team again.

I'd prefer if Earl didn't come anywhere close to the team because we don't want any of his antics distracting the team.

Hi Ms. Jam :)
Sorry to disagree with you my dear friend. Fortunately the points are followed strictly by Matchroom. US pool politics are not a factor when who is chosen to play in the Mosconi. That is how it should be both on the table and off. Both SVB and Dechaine will make great team members for the US team.

Mika plays for Europe unless you know something that we all dont. Brandon Shuff is good but not near the player that Morris or Hatch are. Especially considering Shane Van Boening just slaughtered Shuff 11-4 at the open. If it were up to me and i wanted to put the best team out there it would be. Shane, Dechaine, Archer, Morris and Hatch.

Did I miss something???

Never said they were evil, Newbie. I happen to like Shawn in particular.

Not sure why it was necessary to throw in the "Newbie" name. :frown: New to the forum does not mean he is new to the pool community. Please explain Jam. ??????

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have respect for everything you write on this forum, mainly because I know you're the real deal!

You bring up some valid points. I think Brandon is on the edge of his peak right now, so that's why I'm throwing his name in the ring. When somebody plays pool every single day, hitting thousands of balls, enters as many tournaments as they can, well, that to me sends a message that they're serious and in tip-top shape!

You may like Shawn but newbie brings up a good point. Putnam wont be on the team.

I'm not so sure. He's in 4th place now on the Mosconi rankings. If he does well at the U.S. Open, he just might be a shoe-in. :p

A lot of pressure on Bubba or "Love Sponge" this week!

You're right. I would be best served by not replying to newbies who are anonymous to veteran members of this forum. It has nothing to do with whether they're in the pool community or not. In some cases, the newbies on this forum can be another member identity who posts under multiple user names.

Thanks for the reminder.

Maybe there should be a separate forum for all the veteran members to have their own conversations then
