The pool scene is so bad in south florida....

Don't ask about Denver.
I know how you play.
Please stay in Florida.

aw cmon im a sucky working joe who humps it 50-60hrs every week. Now my buddy Ray, who I use to think played close to me or under me...well hes unemployed and broke! you know what that means...hes running out from everywhere!

jrt30004: The pool teams are all full at tootsies. Imagine that...

I'd hate to call $10/hr reasonable, but these days it's about average. There are different membership options I've put some thought into:
  • monthly fees
  • punch cards - get 1 hour free for every 5 hours
  • Private club with an annual membership fee along with initial share purchase
  • Time shares - I know it's a stretch, but some people play the same amount of time the same time every week

You should post that in Room Owners and see what they think. Our owner and I have been discussing similar options.

Alright then, in that case you and "Ray", stay in Florida.
If you & Ray decide to make a road trip to Denver, I'm warning you that my APA team won the city summer team tournament this weekend.
So you really don't want to mess with me right now.

damn..They showed us a ton of action when were there.A lot of Miami pool players are gonna be real bored once that place closes..

You are a kind soul to provide such warning.

They will all move to the Corner Pocket in Lauderdale. thats John Foster's new room. Non smoking, gold crowns and already the scene for high dollar action. All those guys u played at Hollywood will likely make camp there. All except the golf game.

There are tons of pool activities in Phoenix. 40-50 Weekly tournaments of all sorts, ratings, games, etc.

Desert Classic Tour is monthly
AWBT (Arizona Women's Billiards Tour) is monthly
Skip & Jans has a huge monthly scotch
Monthly 1-pocket at Kolby's and Bullshooters
Stingers monthly 9 or 10-ball pays over a $1000 each month
Metro, The OX, Kitty's, Groggy's, Deli Sports, etc. all have weekly and monthly events.

There is tons of action whenever you want it, and Tucson has a ton as well.

The BCAPL Southwest Regional was just here and grew by a large margin in 1 year.

Vegas, San Diego, L.A. are all a short drive or $69 flight away.

Fyi

Pool on big table here runs $6-7 an hour. Bar tables are still .50-.75 a game. My favorite Pool room has a weekly tournaments on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights every week.

And I hear the rating system used in Arizona sucks big time.

Who the hell plays pool in DC?

There are tournaments all over MD!

I believe First Break in Sterling (Northern Virginia) is still doing weekly 9 ball tournaments on Thursday nights, plus I saw on AZbilliards they are having an Action Pool Tour event there Oct 29-30.

NC is stout! Charlotte area is super strong. Lots of fairly large weekly tournaments & lots of pool rooms as well. Most all stay so busy its often difficult to get a table. Plus much more if you want to drive an hour.

You got some bad information. The rating system is not without it's flaws, but it has built up tournament play all over the state. Bars and Pool rooms often hold many lower rated tournaments to help boost business (as there are many more lower rated players). And we all know without those players and their money, we'd have many more rooms closing down and even less tournaments for the players.

People always gripe about their rating, mainly because they are rated correctly and are not able to steal the small tournaments every week.

But keeping on topic, I did a search and there are just over 55 weekly tournaments in Phoenix. 48 of those are for players rated 8 & below or scotch doubles. There are OPEN Tournaments, but they seem to be dying as the top players just don't support them enough to keep them strong and the lower players try them once in awhile but don't always like donating. The DCT and AWBT doesn't use the Rating System and are open to everyone. The Monthly 1 Pocket tournaments also have their own independent rating based very loosely on the AZ Ratings. Many top $ added monthly tournaments are limited to 8 & Below or 7 & Below. Also, Arizona is a hotbed for Scotch Doubles, many tourneys with limits of combined handicaps of 16 & Under (so top players can still play, with lower opponents).

Believe it or not Dave with poolrooms closing the action is going to pick up. 20 years ago when i started playing down here is south Florida there was roughly 3 poolrooms where everyone congregated to. There was crazy action every night. The more poolrooms that opened spread the players out further and further. I can definitely see Corner Pocket becoming 1 of the 2 action spots in South Florida, with Grovers in West Palm making a come back. That being said i feel like playing pool again, so all the PLAYERS out there make a fair game and come on down. Plus Vic is playing again and that is never a bad thing.

It sucks in LA, I stopped playing since I left Vegas and came here. Pool is history like 8 track tapes and B&W TV. Video games, Facebook and poker among 500 other. New things that are easy instant gratifaction games/entertainment killed pool. It won't vanish but long gone are the days of pool, like the arcades in 1981 when video games came along, those days are over too. Time marches on. Sucks but it's reality.

Florida pool will never die with vic in action..I think we gambled with him at grovers mainly..

Pool is going thought tough times in many places because of the RECESSION, HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT, AND COMPETITION FROM OTHER LEISURE TIME ACTIVITIES.

The Snowbirds are returning to the Valley of the Sun for their Annual Winter Camping out, and when I talk to people from other States they all say thing are bag with the EXCEPTION of Texas, and North Dakota where their economies seem to be flourishing.

Here in the Valley of the Sun, many of the BARS that had a Couple of Pool Table have closed. This information was verified with one of the guys in August who recovers Pool Table for hi livelihood. I asked him after being told by the Owner of one of the Larger Pool & Dart Supply Businesses, that in the last 9-12 months. Over 100 Bar, Sports Bar, and Pool Rooms had closed in the Valley of the Sun. He confirmed the other guys story.

If you want a wake up call look at our very own AZB-Wanted & For Sale Section, and see Pool Cues, and Cue Cases that would be gone in hour 2 years ago, now sitting for days, or weeks without a sale.

HotLanta

Atlanta, Georgia still going strong. Mr. Cues 2 has more than 50 tables and you have to wait for one on some nights. APA, BCA, 8,9 and One Hole tournaments.
