$25 for a piece of chalk is ridiculous!

I wont pay $25 for a cube as it is not even in the ballpark of the other brands. I.E. Masters $.25 is pretty consistent. However to each there own.

One thing that really hasn't been said though regarding this Kamui chalk is the wear and tear on a tip that chalking actually does. A lot of players use layered tips that are not so cheap. Excess chalking will go through tips quite frequently. This premium piece of chalk would save on the number of tips a player would go through due to chalking less.

Less mess on hands, clothes, cues, tables is a bonus as well.

But no matter all those positives, I will not pay that kind of money for a cube of chalk. I bring my own new Masters chalk alot to a poolhall/tourney, and when I use them end up leaving them quite frequently. I would do the same with the premium chalk.

I am not knocking the chalk. It could work great. But there isnt a piece of CHALK on this planet that I would pay 25-30 for. Unless it was a piece that Jesus himself used playing God. Then maybe. But not until then.

My cue cost about $1,000. My tips cost $25-$35. I would pay $25 or even more for a piece of chalk if it provided that much value to me. Maybe longer lasting, better cue control, etc. No evidence yet that Kamui is worth $25 but I can't eliminate the possibility that some brand may be in the future. Just IMO...

I can't agree more. This past week, I paid $500 for a bottle of rum. Show me te value and I will buy it!

chalk

I've been using master chalk all my life and have no problem with it. I can get a gross of master chalk for under $ 20.00. I like the idea of chalking every shot, it brings a pre- shot routine to my game that I like, just like Archer picking lint and moving balls in the pockets. I think most people, including myself, miss-cue when they fail to execute the correct stroke. Also chalking each shot gives me satisfaction that there is sufficent chalk on my tip and not having to guess when I should chalk next. If the Kamui chalk is all that, why don't they prove it and put it on a streaming table for free for the players to use....This would be a chance to showcase their product for all to see and would cost them about $000.00 to prove how well their product works. I brought this up many times on streamed events and never got an answer. This would be a no brainer to Kamui if their product is as good as they say. I guess you could say I'm old school for my ideas and as long as master chalk works for me, I have no idea of changing what isn't broke and purchasing something that has a higher price and the thinking " if it cost much more..then it must be better". So I will pass on the Kamui chalk until master chalk no longer works for me. One more thing....as it goes some people say " if you are going to play for big $$$$$$$$$, WHY TAKE A CHANCE OF GUESSING HOW MANY SHOTS YOU CAN SHOOT BEFORE YOU MISS-CUE ????....I'm going to use my master chalk, and chalk every shot and have the confidence that I have chalked my tip and feel safe shooting the shot. I may be old fashioned and believe... IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. This is just my honest opinion on this subject. Remember, when you are playing for the big money....ARE YOU GOING TO GUESS HOW MANY SHOTS YOU CAN PLAY WITHOUT CHALKING ???? I DON'T THINK SO.....WHAT ARE EVERYONES TAKE ON THIS, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR OPINIONS.

A good point, I mean it is like paying 25 bucks for toilet paper or a newspaper or something. Sure they may be nicer, but how much nicer can these items get?? Not much is the answer. It is just way overboard.

chalk

It sounds like a good product. My main thought is that is sticks to the tip so good. how abrasive is this chalk to the tip. how long will the tip last?
I would never put down a product or item that a person or business may
sell, Just can't seem to make the high cost go away. I would be glad to sell a few pieces at my cost to let anyone that wants try it out. take care,

john

Short answer is that Kamui Chalk does work better than Masters or Blue Diamond...

The same folks that won't pay 1.00 for water or that ***** about paying for refills will be the ones *****ing about $25 for a cube of chalk.

They likely were the also complaining about the price of the layered tips when they came out... Little research and you can see there were tons of those threads as well.

To make this thread different and even more entertaining lets do this one based on economics.....

Basically I have seen cubes of Kamui that have been in use for 6 moths of regular use. By the amount of chalk left on the cube it appears that a year of use can be gotten out of a cube. Regular in this instance means 4 days a week. 4 days x 52 weeks... 208 playing days.... Thats a whopping 14 cents a day @$29/cube to use the best product on the market...

I swapped to Blue Diamond 2 years ago and lost 2 pieces right out of the gate... Ouch there goes 9 bucks..... I learned to keep my chalk in my pocket.. Not only did this keep me from losing it it helped in my preshot.. I saw a video of myself with the chalk on the table and I was constantly having to look for it... It was the opposite of being smooth... Now I move into position and if I decide I need more chalk I don't have to move I just reach into my pocket and continue...

Once you learn to keep up with your chalk I don't think that price has anything to do with a decision to buy it...

Now if you can't keep up with your chalk thats a different story....I tend to think that you most likely would lack the focus and discipline to have gotten any benefit from the Kamui chalk to start with......

personal chalk

Excellent review by the original poster.

I used to chase my chalk around the table, constantly rearranging all the pieces of chalk on the rail to find the one I want. Now I hold on to my piece of chalk.Maybe $25.00 chalk will lead to fewer people littering the rails with chalk cubes and chalk dust.

I started using one of the pocket chalk holders years ago. It's paid for itself countless times since I never lose my chalk. Heck, a piece of Master chalk lasts me a couple of months playing 2-3 times a week. I guess that's the reason I don't have a big problem with the Kamui chalk. BTW, I throw away my chalk after it wears down 20-25% of the height.

I'm still trying to remember the last time I miss cued with masters chalk. Hmm... Can't seem to remember. Chalk before every shot and you won't have a problem. Chalk is free, provided by the pool hall. :) why waste your money?

Lets..see..25 bucks for one block of chaulk vs 100 blocks of masters..hmmmm will go with masters, but thats just me..I play with a triangle tip an a cheap 500 JP as well..to each their own..If I had Johnsons money maybe I would try an keep up with the Jones..lol

I figure the 1 pce I am using will last about 2 years. The premium price is an ok trade for clean hands, cleaner table, more consistent results. It is looking like the laminated tips are lasting longer as well. It will be another 6 months before those results are conclusive.
When you get used to the Kamui Chalk, all others seem like junk in comparison.
I liken it to a whiskey. The cheap stuff is ok, but when you get the taste for the real whiskey, the cheap stuff is just that , cheap and nasty.

1 Gross of chalk

Master Chalk case is a 144 pieces (1 gross) = $23.50 retail cost plus about $9 shipping = $32.50

Kamui Chalk by the cube x 144 = $3,600 retail cost ($25 per cube) plus free shipping = $3,600

$32.50 VS $3,600.00

ps, Seybert's actually retails Kamui Chalk for $27.95 per piece and,
it sells for even more on eBay (up to $35 per piece).

I realize every one can do math, but i mean my first car was 3500. That is just so amazing seeing that figure.

Where is the official AZB piece of kamui test chalk? You know, the one we use and pass on to the next guy. (Yeah yeah, I'm cheap, poor, skeptical, etc.)

Maybe the answer is that any pool player who is so poor that they cannot afford $25 for a particular piece of equipment should consider finding a cheaper hobby?

Ding ding ding...and we have a winner!

I was waiting for this answer. There are so many threads on AZ complaining about $1 bottled water, raising the bar box price from 50 cents to 75 cents, repair prices, etc etc etc. I never really understood why if someone wants to spend his personal money on something, everyone feels the need to jump in and condemn him. Whether that is paying $800 for a sneaky pete or $25 for a piece of chalk. If you enjoy your hobby and you spend your own money on it; why does everyone get so upset? Jealousy? Anger at Lindsey Lohan? Alien mind control? Kim Kardashian's divorce?

I'm sure most people in the world spend money on things that others would find frivolous. Most Americans do for sure. Pool has enough negativity without worrying about $25 chalk. If someone comes up with $1000 chalk and someone else wants to try it, how about being happy for them? Prolly too much to ask?

Whereever they cahrge you $1 for a bottled water and .75 to play one lousy game of pool is.....where I want to go, lol. Games have been $1 here for quite sometime and water is $1 if your lucky. Water and can pop is usually $1.25 and our town is not a bustling haven for poolplayers. I enjoyed the one and only time I was in your poolroom and hope to make it back.
