Anyone tried shooting with eyes closed?

Yeah, seems weird, doesn't it?

Yesterday while practicing I randomly thought I'd shoot a couple of shots with my eyes closed.

I usually raise the cue up to line up the shot, then put hand on the table, and make adjustments if seems necessary.

I closed my eyes just as I had lined up the shot and my bridge hand touched the felt. I tried to hit the cue ball in the middle.

The results were very surprising. I hardly missed a shot! (well, only about 20% more often than I usually would)

Have any of you tried it? Would it be good practice to do this, I could see how I would put more effort into lining up the shot when I am standing.

Cheers,
Margus.

I used to do this a lot and still do. Used to take wagers on such a thing. "I won't look at a single shot." "I'll close my eyes" "Pick a spot on the wall and I have to look at it." "Blindfold me." Yea...not really gambling....just a job the way I looked at it.

It's "easy". It can also be a drill to uncover some bad habits and/or break them.

I figured a lot of people did this. But, I never read any pool books or saw any videos so I could be wrong about such things.

Shooting with your eyes closed will stop you from 'steering' the cue.....
...just let it go.

Golf teachers have done this with people who can't let the shot go.
They tell them to hit shots after dark and pick the balls up in the morning.

After last night's performance at the pool hall, I probably would have been better off with my eyes closed.

I was in a match with Corey in the IPT and he was closing his eyes while breaking..

He made a concerted effort to stroke the ball 3 or 4 times after he closed them before he struck the CB.

He said it made him concentrate on his stroke versus the spot on the balls....

Its been a few years and my Jedi Knight skills are a little rusty so I haven't tried it in a while.

Some days, the way I shoot, you'd think I had my eyes closed anyway.
