Something I want Earl Strickland to hear.

Everybody knows that Earl was one of the greatest players ever, still is a great player. But with all of his complaining of jump cues, soft breaks, designated break areas, where to rack the balls etc etc...it starts getting to the point the only reason people watch him now aren't as much for the playing ability but for the chance to see him snap. I watched a video awhile back of Earl telling a story of when he was younger he was playing Luther Lassiter I believe, and he said that he was hooked and jumped the ball with his full length cue and Luther jumped up and said foul, because he never seen anybody "jump" a ball before so there is no way that it could be legal. Earl said that he explained that it WAS legal and they continued on only to have the exact same thing happen again, he goes on to say that after the second time he said Luther sat down with a tear in his eye because he realized that the game of pool was changing and he wasn't used to it and perhaps didn't like it. I think that Earl should think back to that moment again, and turn the tables around on himself and realize that pool is changing just like when he was a young man and had to explain that to a great like Luther, and realize that either he has to just accept it and move on and play the game the way it is now, or just give it up and put away his cues. Just like the way he hates all these things so badly especially the jump cue, he should think of how Luther felt when he jumped the ball and Luther didn't think that should be allowed. Earl was the young player back then showing new tricks the old dogs don't like and not being able to understand why they didn't like it. Well now he is the old dog with new things coming out and he doesn't like it. He should just watch some old videos of himself, throw away the glasses, gloves, arm and ass weights, 70 inch cues and the attitude and just PLAY F**KING POOL!!!!!

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Earl will see your post, sincerely consider your words, and then completely change his mentality to suit your request. :p

On a more serious note, the reality is that you can't reason with someone who doesn't see reason. Even with all Earl's setbacks, he still remains one of my favorite players to watch. Earl is Earl...and that's why I love watching him. I'm not sure I'd have it any other way.

Well,

glad to know how you feel about what you think earl should do.

I will sleep better tonight,

The whole point of the post is to just say stop worrying about the little things. He is one of the best players to ever live and he is letting all the other stuff get in the way of that. Instead of playing pool he worries about how the other player breaks. This isn't JUST for Earl, everybody should pay attention to it and stop worrying about the little freaking things and just play THEIR game! He is one of my favorite players to. It is hard to not enjoy watching pure raw talent in a game so many consider so hard. If he can change the game of pool back when he was young, then why is it so wrong to him that the young guns these days are changing the game? I honestly personally like the old school ways better also which is the way that Earl wants it, he says he wants just pure pool playing, not all the fake stuff, but yet he brings all this stuff that is going to "help" his game. Like the glasses, weights, gloves. It is just going against what he is saying. Thats all I am saying.

He is one of my favorite players too. May nothing but good things happen to him.

Earl's lost it

Earl has become a clown..., He could if he wanted to or was able to, turn pool around or at least have a great effect on its progress.

He shows little respect for the game he says he loves, if he could let his cue do the talking he could push whatever agenda he wanted to, but creating a side show is for clowns.

Great player, lack of class.

Man, that's a lotta shoulds for Earl. I watch Earl, and not for his antics but his awesome confident playing ability.

Thanks

Kevin

What I want Earl Strickland to hear.....

"Thank you, for entertaining us. And showing us the highest caliber of pool playing.

And I hope you are enjoying yourself some, for someone who appears so frustrated so often."

Ditto..

I see a lot of pool keyboard warriors, but none of them are selling their house to teach earl a lesson.

How is he going to hear you with the ear muffs on?

PSSSSSST

I think the reason he went to the muffs in the first place was to avoid hearing what guys who he could spot the last 5 and 2 on the wire telling him what he should do.

Well, that and his obvious desire (who can blame him?) to be more like Shane.

Thanks

Kevin

I disagree, I watch him to see him play pool. I don't care about his antics one way or the other. One reason some top players don't care for him is because he is a threat to win every tournament he enters and take money out of their pockets.

There are high profile players who are ex-convicts. I don't see anybody making a big deal about that.

Something Earl wants you to hear

Go F*** Yourself!

Even with all of his gadgets and antics, he can still play great pool. However, I do agree that he would win more tournaments if he could just manage his distractions better.

I started playing pool because of Earl, I seen him playing on T.V. when I was a kid and I was hooked, after all these years he still might have the Highest gear playing 9 ball then anybody ever. When he is on it is just soooo Awesome to watch.

Apparently nobody knows what constructive criticism is. I never said he was a bad player and I never said nobody watched him for the good pool. I happen to really like his game as a player, and nobody denies he is one of the greatest that ever lives, hence my very first words in my post. But under all of his gadgets he still has game, and if he would stop worrying about all the distractions, like all of his gadgets, he could probably step up and be the old Earl again. Thats all my post was saying, I wasn't trying to tell him how to play or anything like that. But since ALL of you think you know everything I will just let it be. And to whoever was saying he could give me the last 5 and 2 on the wire...If you or ANYBODY you know wants to give me the last 5 and 2 on the wire, you just let me know and I will let you know where to find me.

Everybody acts like Earl just started doing this...he ALWAYS barked when he played. It's just that there's a lot more video of him doing it in the last 10 years or so. The gadgets have been more recent, although he's shed a lot of that lately, too. I think he likes the back and forth with "opponents" in the crowd because it helps psych him up to catch a gear. Of all the guys of his vintage/age group still playing, he's the only one who's still a real threat to catch that gear...and what a gear it is.

EXACTLY my point! Once he started shedding all the gadgets, he had less to worry about and his game has shot up lately!
