I don't post much but it is killing me.
People selling their secrets has ruined pool to me . That is what made pool great, players kept the info to themselves or very close friends. They would not sell their info no matter what.
I am just frustrated that I paid a lot of $$$ for PRIVATE lessons and thought I had something most players don't have.
Azbilliards ( free info) and players/instuctors looking to make that one big money deal is making me wanting to quit.
How do u all feel or am I alone here ?

So what you are really saying is people should only sell their secrets to you. You're just pissed because you "thought" you were buying special information. If you were on wall street, you would be pissed because you didn't get exclusive insider trading information.

Selling knowledge isn't a crime...you don't know,what you don't know.
There are some folks that look at pool like a puzzle,an like to figure it out on their own
I like a little info to confirm my thinking.

Yeah, you're alone.

Or if not, it's a small group.

Look, all the knowledge it the world isn't gonna make you or me into a great player. It's what any of us do with that knowledge.

Yep, you are alone.

On the other hand being told how to swing a cue stick or golf club correctly and actually being able to do it are hours and hours of practice apart. The greatest benefit of an instructor is that he tells you what you are doing wrong and why. He also gives the shortest path to correction. There are only a few ways to swing correctly given the situation. There are as many ways to do it wrong as there are players. The value of an instructor is in his analysis of what is wrong. It is up to the student to make the change and reap the reward.

Don't sweat it. All that information is cool and some of it may actually help your game but most of your (at least mine) improvement comes from putting in the work. Luckily for us, most guys are not willing to put in the work. If you don't believe me stop playing for 10 years or so and then go back into your local pool room. 99% of the guys in there will still be playing the same speed.

with today's technology and information can be obtained at the touch of a finger, one can pretty much find secrets/knowledge about anything. look at the 2011 WSOP final table, players were able to find out what hands their opponents had within minutes

The sharing does not bother me one bit, just better competition.

Truth is, even with the so called "secrets" that you mention. They won't do anyone much good without hard work, that's something most players aren't willing to go through.

I share my knowledge with players that I feel are in it for the right reasons, willingly and for free. Even if it did take me a few decades to figure some of it out.

You're nearly alone. From your post it sounds like you were looking for a gambling advantage over weaker/clueless players. I think you mostly still have that as few players do the internet or books or magazines. I suspect that most of the "secrets" you were sold have been public info for a long time. After all, the secret of pivoting has been in print for over 170 years -- if only you knew where to look.

I know of a different pool website that contains 10x the amount of useful information than AZBilliards has. But I'm not sharing. Most of you already know it anyway.

And 99% of people will not be able to use all the available info to turn themselves into a great player. It's a very hard thing to do.

The thing is this. You paid for private lessons and got the information spoon fed to you for as long as it took for you to master it. Someone else buys a DVD and has to go through a painful process of self-learning and begging for tidbits until they master it but are then still not completely sure that they got it.

So here is your choice.

You and I are going to play some $1000 a rack ten ahead one pocket in one month's time. We are both average one pocket players.

You have two choices. Whichever one you pick I get the other one.

#1. You get $1000 worth of lessons, say 10 hours with Scott Frost before playing me. You have to pay for the lessons.

#2 You get Scott's DVD for $30 to watch to your heart's content.

Which choice do you want?

I think you know the answer and so do I.

when I was 14 I paid 50 cents to a kid named "little Timmy" to show me how to draw the cue ball at Sand's Cue and Cushion in Wilkinsburg , Pa. Well worth it.

You would be shocked at the number of people that actually pay for info, and still don't bother to use it.;)

How true. I have a good friend who started playing pool 2 years ago and trades/loans/buys all the instructional discs he can get his hands on. I'm talking Dr Dave's 5-disc set, the Monk series, Sigel's Perfect Pool, Reid's Art of 8 ball to name a few.

Watching these tapes isn't going to make you an A player all of a sudden. Despite all of the info at his hands, he fails to recognize many situations and patterns mentioned on those discs.

1 of the reasons i done my book, was so if i can sell enough copies i can go to the dcc, and taste that great event, as ive never been.

The other reason is i want to help people learn, and share my knowledge and techniques. When i advised Darren Appleton, when he was struggling on what he was doing wrong and to improve, i only advised him and told him what he had to do, he then put months and months of hard work in. He is now reaping the rewards of his hard work. I merely gave the advice. So with all the knowledge you have to graft hard on the table.

I was told there are about 4-5 guys in the country that plays top speed. These guys have dedicated their life to the game. Each step of the way were enormous barriers. While some are known, how is it possible to know what they know unless they tell you? Any information other than what you hear from these guys would be nothing. So it's up to you to judge for yourself if there are such players. If what I said is true than there are definitely guys doing things you can only dream of. To get there you have to know what to do, and just as important, what not to do. Can't do it by yourself. The information is usually reserved.
