After eight months with CTE

I said this once before and a proponent of this system went psycho on me, but I'd like to see someone using this system video themselves playing some 14.1 so I can get a feel how this works. Nothing huge, maybe a 30 ball run where you are pivoting, shifting or whatever you do on each shot.

I don't see why that isn't possible. I would want them talking out loud, call out what they are thinking though each shot. You just need someone setup with a table and video camera.

OK, so I couldnt stand it any longer. I ordered the Pro One DVD today. One question while I am waiting for it to arrive. I use a LD shaft. Does this effect the system at all with the pivoting and then the BH english issues? I have read a little and understand that BH english is not real accurate with LD shafts. Im interested in how LD shaft users apply english with Pro One/CTE. Thanks

In addition to what the others said, with CTE/Pro One, you pivot to the center of the cue ball so there is no squirt problems, but should you need English, simply adjust as you normally do when applying English.

Thanks, that's what I've been looking for. Whatever he is doing is working for him.

I'm using cte with a left to right manual pivot on every shot. I used a 90/reverse-90 on the first break shot (which I later learned was the same as the cte 1/8 alignment). I shot every shot thick/thin. I also use RonV's hip pivot. I honestly think basic CTE and 90/90 are the same system (or can be, if you choose to pivot from both directions).

Help me out, you line up on the left edge of the cue ball and what, the left edge of the object ball? Then you pivot to what, the middle of the cue ball? Do you look at the object ball or cue ball last? How do you adjust for English?

Bssed on this thread I ordered my dvd last week. First of all let me say Stan has been a pleasure to deal with; got it in the mail the next day; he sent me emails and told him to just email if I got questions. Had a chance to go through the manual part today. Wow.. unbelievable difference for me. I was making shots consistently that I was winging before. Wen through the dvd; shot for about 3 hours at home; went to poolhall and people wanted to know what the hell I was on. I have an 8 foot at home; got used to the CTE then went to barbox and it was like having 6 inch pockets :) I'm still figuring out the left to right pivot; sometimes I mess it up but can already tell its getting easier. Looking forward to continue to work with it. I must admit this is the first aiming system I've tried and want to thank you guys for posting so much good info on it and explanations. thanks again.

Once again, Stan Shuffett is the one who deserves all of the credit.

Glad you are "getting it". Some never do. ;-)

Here's some more info!!

I have to say I recently have been going through a major slump, 6 weeks or so now. Seemed like after learning and using CTE for just a few months my ball pocketing had improved 25% and my overall game improved as well because of that. Then I started trying to automate some of my english adjustments, and that further helped with accuracy etc.

Then I kept stretching it, never happy, and I think I worked myself into a corner. Switched shafts, not just once but back and forth a few times, which of course messed up my feel and english adjustments. Tweaked my preshot routine, which messed up my feel and confidence as well. Even through this period, I had some lights out moments, but nothing sustainable.

Recently I've been slowing down my process somewhat, just taking an extra second or so to sight the ball/aim/pivot and pausing first at the cueball before starting any warmup strokes, and in doing so I realized I had gotten a little sloppy with my sighting and pivoting. And basically my overall confidence suffered because of these random misses that were occuring along with frustration setting in.

Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone else experiences this. I screwed myself up more than anything else, but since I took to CTE pretty quickly I think I kept experimenting thinking I could make it even better, had I just stopped once I "got it" and stuck to it I would have saved myself a few months of misery... :)

Can't say enough about the CTE/Pro1 approach, and even some of the 90/90 concept I've used (like Spiderwebcomm). Stan was a great help in explaining concepts over and above the DVD, as were several forum members. It may not be for everyone, but for me when done properly the confidence you get when looking at even tough shots, being able to treat a tough or long or thin shot like any other, is just amazing. Also having a definite starting place of a pure center pocket hit from which to adjust for english was better than my old method of just integrating everything together by feel alone.

scottjen26, you might try slowing your back swing before pulling the trigger. Stan suggested this to me at the Open when I spoke with him and it made a big difference for me. You may do this already, if not, give it a try.
