The other Thread with this title was running dual topics. The Mosconi Cup comments can carry on here.

Last post on this subject concerned who people wanted as US Team Captain and several veterans were mentioned.

It is not Matchroom's job to provide positions for pool veterans (No matter how worthy).
That can be handled by the Hall of Fame. They want to attract audiences to the pool productons. They wanted a younger captain to fill a role and that is exactly why they chose Charlie.

The title suggests you are hammered!

The post, not so much.

I agree that the age point deserved pulling out, people are still calling for old-timers.

Thread title: "I Agree Wtth Darrewn (The Non Fatboy Strand)"

Who's "Darrewn" -- is that a play on Darwin, and are you saying the non-Fatboy strands are agreeable with Darwinism?

(Sorry, Doug, I could *not* resist! :p )

Thanks S
But I saw it before you did.

Maybe, maybe not. But you definitely put the correction in before the 60-second grace period expired, such that your post didn't reflect the fact it was edited after posting.

Anyway, I agree -- the continuation of the Mosconi Cup discussion needs to continue, minus the off-topic Fatboy-lambasting. Thank you for creating this new thread!

I usually agree with you but I think you are way off base here

Just to keep the spirit of the Cup alive, I'll endulge this a bit (can't wait by the way - hope it will be as much fun as last year!). If they wanted a younger coach, then why not Dennis Hatch? He was the man of the event two years ago, played great last year, and got everyone pumped up both years. How can anyone argue with him as a good choice (not that it matters, what's done is done)?

I'd let Hatch play for the whole team and be the captain... His spirit is ferocious! And is not fueled by a promotional company............ ........ Just pure adrenaline and heart!

If they wanted someone younger and attract audiences they should have chosen Dippy..... Or any one of twenty people before Charlie.

Everyone is being played now with this new thread. CW is a done deal, pretty much everyone has said what they have to say -- now it's just a matter of keeping the pot stirred for the sake of MC publicity. Just my opinion.

I don't see how this thread, or any other here on azb is gonna generate any additional publicity for the mosconi cup. Anyone who reads this has undoubtedly already made up their mind on the issue, and nothing said here will change that.

All we're doing here is passing the time, shooting the stuff....

The only argument I would have is the same one from when he was a player for US in the Mosconi Cup... If you are trying to improve pool's image having a convicted felon involved is not the way to go....

Granted he paid his debt to society and I think that should be enough but the people outside looking in might not feel that way......

Pool is already married to the underbelly of society in the opinions of the US and when I tell clients that I am an avid pool player they always look at me funny and I know the link between pool, drugs and criminal activity is hard at work against what they know about me......

My issue with CW being captain has nothing to do with his past and everything to do with his present. You can't have the captain of the US Mosconi Cup Team be someone who continuously represents another country in tournaments.

If youth was a factor I would pick Dennis Hatch all day long. Heck I would put Hatch in my top 3 picks regardless of age.
