What's your BEST "playing" cue - the one you take to the pool hall

Mike Gulyassy Sledge Hammer

I play with my Mike Gulyassy Sledge Hammer that has been fitted with a OB2 shaft and it plays like a dream. I love the wrap on the SH because it slips real good and that OB2 can spin a cb better than a politician can a blunder.

Tascarella

I have a Tascarella Hoppe cue that I have not been able to put down since I got it in February of 2010. I have played with that cue longer than any of the others I have had. Just seems to fit and hit.

In a big tournament or for the money, it would have to be my Bob Frey! Although my Dave Bollman or Kenneth Murrell would be a close second!

I play with a judd sneaky pete I got a few months back. Nothing spectacular to look at but man does it hit em nice.

The three in my sig are my only cues, so snooker to 10 ball, I can play with any of them. I try to rotate through them all, otherwise why own them. I am really enjoying my new Runde era Schon R-11.

My Szamboti shaft on any 5/16-14. Steel jointed cue

It fits my Mottey but the mottey is getting refinished by JMW. So I trimmed the brass insert a bit,to fit my 59" phillippi- The Gus shaft short narrow shaft(Origonal taper) its from the 60's was coal black I cleaned it up. The Ivory ferrule glistens and the darker wood is incredible. I have been thinking about it for days- it just sings a different tone. I have another gus Szamboti shaft coming this wk- guess what I'll be doing? Not sure what Barry gets for the new shafts- But you can bet I will be trying 1 soon. A friend is telling me about 2 more mint gus shafts- 400.each. They will be mine soon. Mark

Gus shaft on any cue!!!!!! I'm only going to say it once . Ive got it bad,

I have the ebony SW in my avitar that I would love to be able to take but the most notorious cue thief in the parts has his eye on it,he's not bashful,he told me a few weeks ago that if he knew where I lived he would break into my house and steal it.

Now and forever my Jacoby and if anything ever happens to it i will have them build me another one just like it.

A nice *simple* Full-Splice Ebony into Birdseye Maple from an austrian cuemaker (Cloria Cues by Silvio Zuglec) and friend. Including Extension etc. He sent it without that i knew it, lol.
Played the first shots and my WC (McDaniel Shop) Cue is in the case since then.

This is a great question! I'm currently using a B/J Samsara with a Predator shaft as my player, so it is relatively inexpensive. I'd love to own something from one of the legends (Rambow, Balabushka, Martin, Gus Szamboti) or a modern work of art (Richard Black and Thomas Wayne especially), but not a chance I'd play with any of these cues on a daily basis. At some point I'd to get a daily player that is a little nicer than I have now, but not too nice.

All of my cues are great players, that's why I keep them. I don't go for lots of inlays or other ornamentation, I'm in a lifelong search of the magic wand/holy grail and I've found a few of them. I have been playing my classic Black Boar RS3 with Tony's modern high tech ferruless shafts for the past couple weeks, played in a tournament on Saturday with it...such a pleasure. Last month I played my Bender sneaky pete, one of 12 made in the mid 90's, with a Kersenbrock shaft...huge player for someone with a big stroke. Whenever I take out my 8-point wrapless full splice Dick Neighbors, I am amazed at the feel/feedback it gives me. Several times a year, I play my full splice John Davis and remember who the master is, but my favorite shaft for it has a cracked ivory ferrule right now and I just haven't had it fixed yet. My ebony into bem Callaluca is what I usually take to the poolhall...it's being rewrapped now and will be sent back to me along with a new ebony into Brazilian rosewood 6-pointer from Joe that I just know will play amazing. I just get a lot of joy out of playing these cues, all of them, regardless of value.
:p

I like the balance and hit of my Dale Perry butt fitted with a McDermott I-3 shaft. The I-3 has a Moori Soft tip. On special occasions I'll pull out my Schon CX-06 also fitted with a McDermott I-3. Just a great looking and playing cue. I like the geometric precision of playing with a 11.75mm tip.

I've been using my TAD since '93 as my player. I have tried others but go right back to my 8 pointer. I had to use my Webb while the TAD was being refinished, what a difference!

Predator wood joint sneaky butt 5/16-18 pin, OB-2 shaft, milk dud tip is my main player. I keep a Hanshew custom sneaky, radial pin Ob-2 shaft, Everest tip in my van that I play with on occasion. Hits on these two cues are close. Don't really know what to do with all my other cues, guess I'll let my kids figure that one out:groucho:

On a daily basis... my Scruggs listed in my signature block.

But I'll shoot with anything I own when the mood strikes me. From my Black Boar to my Monster Scruggs (plural) to an old-school Richard Black. It doesn't matter to me. I wont own a cue if I can't shoot with it.

I don't believe in owning a cue if it doesn't serve the purpose it was made for.
