I got this one....49 million. No two people will line up the same and see the same thing. At best It's still just a guess.IMO John B.
Or this one. Its a free world. Kiss my butt.![]()
Clearly tho, I'm not the one sitting home starting the umpteenth thread about the same tired ol nonsense amounting to nothing more than wondering why other people think what they think. Do you really think the staggering amount of aim thread content, argument, debate, etc, posted so far has left any possible morsel untouched?
Yea....no.
Of course if you don't like to read my comments, there is the funny pic thread.![]()
I don't use aiming/pocketing systems. Several people I shoot with do. Both approaches seem to work fine. But I also don't delude myself into thinking that it's snake oil since a ton of top pros do and it is VERY easy to spot. To each their own.
The reality is--> learning how to aim takes time.
The angles on shots are infinite. Only through work and time on the table will you figure out how to aim and pocket balls. If an aiming system works for you that's fine.
Shane's statements on a tar podcast fast lenny linked to in another thread are pretty telling of what it takes to get to a really high level. REPETITION to a point that aiming becomes automatic.
Anyone who says that you can get there without the work is usually selling something.
I don't think aiming systems are a bad thing or ineffective just over hyped on this forum. If the supporters of the aiming systems were a little more humble about their value I might have a little more interest in what they had to say.
Most of systems so heavily debated here will break down when you start putting english on the cue ball anyway. So they are just a starting point in your journey towards becoming a better player.
The other side of this is that if you focus way to much on aiming you might miss the weak spots in your fundamentals. If your stroke isn't straight in the first place it really doesn't matter how you aim.

I can only speak for my own experience. I thought for years that I was hitting center ball when I attempted to but I finally found out that I wasn't. It was pointed out to me a few times but I just couldn't see it. I still have to aim so that it looks to me as though I was striking the cue ball off center in order to hit center ball. I seriously doubt I'm the only one with this problem. I didn't hit the wrong spot all the time but enough to drive me nuts! When I was playing well, I wasn't off center but when I was playing badly I just couldn't see it. The phone lesson from Gene finally got it across to me. If my eyes are in the right spot I'm not sure if it makes a difference what aiming system I use. I do use CTE at this time and have for about four years now. It's improved the way I play but it ain't a magic bullet, there are still things I can do wrong in order to miss![]()
A good friend keeps trying to get me to understand that I'm hitting off center regularly. I can't seem to see it, as well.
Well we have both been here for quite a while and I agree with most of wht you say. However I will disagree with the pocketing balls being one the easier parts of the game. I still think it is the toughest part of the game and the most crucial. Pocketing balls is what separates the big boys from the also ran's, IMO. I think we live in a very technical world and one where the younger are not willing to put in the time and work that we did years ago. just a week or so ago someone was talking about watching the cue ball or the object ball and someone responded that as long as you were lined up correctly, it just didn't matter. I wondered then how anyone could say such a thing and think anyone could place any value on his opinion or advice.
We can line up, pre shot routine correctly, and aim and maybe make tha ball but still end on in dead mans land and totally on the wrong side of the ball, and then blame the loss of the game blaming the safety that was attempted after the very routine shot was totally butchered because ;they weren't aware of the critical position on the the ball all because with being so technically correct, the shot was ignored and and not felt. After all all that other stuff goes out the window if you can't feel the shot which aligns and simplifies the game.
Then again I guess we can argue and rant about the new world all we want and they are still entitled their opinions. the game will not be again what it was 40 years ago nor will be the results. i don't see any Billy Incordonas, Buddy Halls, Ronnie Allens, and Harold Worsts coming down the pike either. Few are left to have seen and known. That I guess is just life!

Why is it I keep missing balls but never seem to miss an (anti) aiming thread?
