What's the best ld shaft on the market?

1. That's really a tricky question. My suggestion is to just go out there and test out as many LD shafts as you can.

It's really quite hard to determine which is the best because afterall, a man's meat is another man's poison.

2. I would say that it does, but it's definitely not the major contributing factor. The greater the force applied to the CB on 1 side, the more it'll deflect to the other to balance it off (N3L).

Since your shaft is your object that produces that force, the thicker the diameter of the shaft, the more dense it is. Density of proportionate to mass, and force is proportionate to mass as well.

Of course this is pretty debatable.

Hope I helped.

Cheers,
Clarence

my vote goes to Mezz aswell, their shafts are amazing.

My personal favorite is Mezz Alpha as 1st choice due to the shaft diameter I like 12.75
My second favorite is Mezz wd700, its a beautiful shaft also.

I've been using the OB2 for a couple of years, suits my needs. You have to be able to play the small diameter tip and taper that this shaft has, a lot of people can't. In the past I've used the Z2, 314, I2, and OB1. Z2 is almost the same in hit and feel, I just like the way the OB2 is made. If you're a white maple color freak, the OB shafts won't fit your bill:groucho:

Mezz also has a 3rd shaft option called Alpha. On my Mezz cue with united joint, the Alpha has a stiffer more solid feel compared to the WD700. WD700 was already stiff and solid. Alpha is more so. Deflection is increased, but so is feedback. Shaft diameter is slightly thicker than the WD700.

Both play great.

the WD700 plays well if you can adjust to how whippy it is

Universal Smart shaft

The USS low deflection shaft has not been mentioned.

I have one fitted to a Players butt. The original Players shaft has a phenolic tip for breaking.

I now use it in my basement as a guest cue.

I now use a 21oz Jacoby Hustler (sneaky pete)

It would make a nice beginners outfit if anyone wants to buy it.

most people consider mezz shafts, including the wd700, on the stiff side. mine certainly is. i can't see how a wd700 could ever be considered whippy. are you sure yours is the original taper?

My WD700 is stiff but the Mezz cue isn't if this makes any sense. I think the whippy feel comes from somewhere around the joint area. My friends Mezz is the same. Great shaft and cue.

Ld

Will this ever stop? Most shaft makers have a demo program. Try 'em til you like one. This question is like asking what's the best beer, cigar, scotch, etc. Too subjective. For what it's worth, the best players i've ever watched used either a stiff,high-squirt cue (Joss,Gina etc.) or soft,long-taper shafted cue, usually a Meucci when they were still in favor. Folks, our right-brain is beyond powerful and will quickly adapt to whatever is in your hand.

I played with a predater 314 2nd gen. for couple of years. Also tried the Z2 but now switched to mezz wd700. My quest is ended coz I really love my mezz shaft. Hits like a regular maple shaft in my opinion and doesn't have a fragile ferrule unlike the predator shafts. Just my humble opinion.

I found the same as you.Potting was fine but when playing inside English it was a guessing game so I would try to avoid it.I like the butts but the wd700 isn't my cup of java.

i just didn't like having to guess how much the shaft was going to give if you had to really stroke through a ball.

i play with a HP1 shaft and i'm happy with it. it's really stiff and doesn't give out on me

Try Hybrid Alpha with a soft tip. You may like it even better.

i've been looking for one but they're hard to find. i can't see myself peeling off $290 for one. i'd put my limit right at 200

You can easily get your 90 bucks back with a good shaft....

How about $250 for a brand new Alpha + 2pcs free G2 tips?

What's a G2 tip? i get paid tomorrow i might be able to swing that. i've got a friend that gets dealer prices that said he might be able to get me one at cost.

which do you like more the HP2 or the alpha? i'd like to try both but they're stupid hard to find in the states.

I like Alpha better. It is thicker and more powerful than HP2 with deflection in between HP1 and HP2. So you can imagine that is pretty easy to get used to. Alpha is supposed an ungrade of HP1. They basically have the same taper but Alpha has a shorter ferrule. But I am not saying HP2 is not good. It is also an excellent shaft. It may be the stiffest and most powerful LD shaft. Sometimes just personal preference.

G2 is a new tip made in Japan. Superb quality, excellent grip, sound and feel.

Let me qualify this by suggesting that you do this with the same tip (or hardness) on the shafts you test if possible, lest you get very misleading comparisions.

I have OB1 shafts with soft tips and Predator 314-2 shafts with Moori mediums. There is a radically different way these shafts hit. I cannot stand my soft tips and am going to something harder.

Mezz Hybrid Pro ll

I have shot with Z,Z-2,314-2, OB, and OB Classic Pro for years. I have lately been shooting with the Classic Pro and love the shaft except for the tapper. I just ordered and received 2 days ago the Mezz Hybrid Pro ll and love the hit of the shaft. Very solid hit of this shaft. It appears deflection is not much different from the OB Classic Pro. I was shocked at the low deflection being a solid maple shaft wiht adjustments. Time will tell if I stick wiht the Hybrid Pro ll but from just a couple days of playing with it I will.
