Break Cue Suggestions !!!

Hey Guys,

I have a Friend that is a Female who is looking to get a decent Break Cue without breaking her Wallet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be a good break cue to steer he towards?

Look for a used Andy Gilbert. It will cost a little, but she can get great use out of it for life. Andy's break cues play fantastic too. Best bang for your buck. Pete Ohman's JB cues are also superb. They are a bit harder to find. Budget around $250 and keep looking.

I love my Predator BK2, which was about $250, might be more now. My friend got a nice Fury jump/break cue for about $170.
 
I've tried quite a few of them, and I'm hooked on the Jacoby Edge - you can get new for around $250.
 
What I did was bought an inexpensive Cuetec sneaky and put on a phenolic ferule and a good break tip and for onder a 100$ you got a pretty good break cue.

Any Players, J&J or the like in the $100 range will break as good as anything else. Just be aware that tip material may be an issue in some leagues (if she plays any) so you may want to explore that prior to purchase.
 
get her something with a water buffalo tip instead of phenolic. a lot of times girls have a little trouble hitting the cue square enough not to miscue with phenolic.
 
I had a Gino Ferrari (sp) that I bought on ebay with a phenolic tip and used for about a year -hits fine for the $50.00 or so that I spent on it.

A few months back, I spent $200.00 or so on a TNT Break Cue with a Samsara tip and couldn't be happier - breaks very, very well once I figured out how much speed to apply.

Tell you what I'll do - if she wants my old break cue (the GF) just to try out, I'll send it to her. If she likes it, have her send me $10.00 for shipping - the cue's on me - it's just sitting gathering dust upstairs. If she doens't like it, just have her send it back to me via snail mail.

Let me know.

I had purchased Gulyassy's Orange Crusher when they were on sale for $125 + shipping (retail $225) and I like it. But she must like Orange since the entire butt is that color. It comes w/a Samsara break tip so it would be legal in BCA events. I'm sure they can be found used for $100-$125 or maybe Mike wouls still do the $125?

I agree with many of the AZ members regarding a break cue for her.

1. Get a super pro water buffalo tip! Its Hard but you still get control!
2. Get the weight to mirror the weight of her playing cue! Consistency, Consistency, Consistency!!!
3. Get a sneaky pete/full splice break cue. They are better balanced and better weight distribution. "IMO" Stick with an Ebony,Purpleheart,Cocobolo full splice with maple forearm, they have the "WEIGHT" you need in a proper break cue! The other woods are "WAY" too light. "IMO"
4. Get a wood to wood joint with joint collars! Any good cue maker will advise the joint collars because the pins have "POPPED" thru the wood way to often when the joint area is not reinforced by phenolic rings!
5. Contact Schmelke to make her one on the cheap and it will last for ever and they will make it the same weight as her playing cue, the same ferrulle size, The same shaft taper.
6. You do not want a whole lot of deflection on your break cue. So, get her the 3/4 inch ferrulle on it to decrease deflection. 1 inch ferrulles work fine if your used to them but if you ever break with a Meucci and their 1 1/4 inch ferrulles and you will get that whip appeal that no one loves especially me when I want and need control!!!!
7. get white ferrulle material the black stuff works but consistency with her playing cue which has white ferrulles is much better by making her maintain the same sight profile she has with her playing cue!!!

Just my thoughts on the topic but I am Half Crazy!!!! LOL

Um, at the risk of sounding sexist, how hard can she hit? If she can hit hard, get a cheap McDermott playing cue with a hardish tip - I play and break with mine and it breaks better than my BK2. Gotta love those big pins.

If she hasn't much cue power, a club cue, and save her money.

i failed to mention that she needs the break joint, but not specifically for jumping. She plays in some bars and what not where space around the table is sometimes an issue. so she breaks the cue down in those awkward situations. so the tip is also important, for less chance of miscuing in those situations.
