Drinking and pool

Rail-birding, gambling or shooting pool are activities located near a licensed alcohol vendor.

What is your ideal drink before rail-birding, gambling or shooting? Do you prefer downing the entire drink or slow drinking for a duration of time?

Before I go out for an evening of playing, I generally will down an entire bottle of the cheapest yellow Tequila. It usually makes me the best player in town and of course, the best Karaoke singer in the world.

Sometimes I want to drink a whole bottle of water before a long match or a tournament.

But I don't like the feeling of "having to hold it" during the match.
And I don't like the feeling of being thirsty or dry mouthed during a match either.
The worst is getting gas, hiccups or bloating.

As for liquor and pool, those two never mixed well for me.

If I'm playing in a pool room or a bar league match. I drink water or coke.

Just screwing around in a bar, I 'll have a beer or two.

Well im not a drinker but when i its a mango's mike lemonade just one bottle and im ready for bed..

And when I know its coming and down an entire bottle of the cheapest yellow Tequila, I'm convinced you're right!

(that slurred rendition of sweet emotion brought me to tears btw...damn tequila)

As a 25 year veteran of the wholesale wine and spirits industry, may I say "Thank You for Your Support !!!"

Nut

We used to call some drinking players 2 to 4 players because they shot well with 2 to 4 drinks in them. Any less or any more than that and they sucked.

What they didn't know was their brain shoots with two hemispheres. One hemisphere plans the shot and one hemisphere executes it.

Without the alcohol the planning hemisphere won't shut up. It keeps talking and re-correcting the shot process not knowing when its process was supposed to be finished. Thus the shooter throws up his proverbial hands into the air and shoots not knowing if the plan is correct or not.

With too much alcohol eye-hand coordination becomes impaired with spotty results.

When at that golden 2 to 4 drink zone, the player finds that the planning process is pushed more into an automatic process. Details cannot be processed as rapidly under the influence and the brain accepts the first planned thought and goes through with it. They become more machine like in their shooting and the results are much to their liking.

When I'm playing league I'll have a few miller lites. When I'm shooting at home it's Jack Daniles or Jim Beam. Bourbon or Whiskey. That's it. If it's brown, it' down.

Don't drink

Don't drink. If you need a drink to relax Learn to shoot without it.

Or you can drink, Bark out games you think you can win,
Think your going to play like Effern.
Gain some extra pounds from drinking,
Then wear a NIT shirt because everybody don't want to play your way.
Then when you have your hangover you can sit on the computer & post images of people who you can't get to play your game.

Drinking while playing used to go hand in hand, now I am sober (1 year this month) and I have to say I play much better. It took a few months to get my confidence back but I enjoy the game a whole lot more and do not have the "I was drunk" excuse to fall back on after a loss.

I also know about the 2 to 4 rule, I was a 4 to 6 player.

Try not drinking and see where your game leads you, you might be surprised.

I also enjoy not being a detriment to myself and everyone on the road after playing. I was a horrible, drunk a-hole. Now I'm just an a-hole.

bloody mary spicy...with olives and a pickle......slow drink......I never drink when i play or before ever....

Are you kidding me? Are you seriously still taking jabs at me?? Wow man, grow up.

I enjoy drinking, but do not drink while playing. I tend to not take things serious when drinking and I cannot focus while I'm playing.

Or you can handle your booze like a grown-up. Your choice, I guess.

There are tons of legendary players who have been able to play very well on the sauce.... It has ruined most of them in the end... I am pretty sure none of you want to match up with a drunken Alex even if you are as sober as humanly possible.....

Besides,

there's drugs now.

Kids are playing on coke, speed.

When I was younger, it was booze.

Somehow it was more human.

Booze, huh?

Booze. Yeah.

Wine. It goes back to the Bible.

The Bible never mentions amphetamines.

I don't have an issue with folks drinking a few, and playing pool as long as they don't get loud and obnoxious (which is usually what happens when they get drunk). One thing I am not fond of is someone yelling and being an ass after they have had way too many. This said, I usually steer clear of bars for playing pool as there is always going to be some drunk running their aligator mouth, which always overloads their humming bird ass.

If I'm playing pool, that is what I'm there for, so I go to a pool hall. I drink water mostly with an occasional soda. One of the halls I frequent has a sign that reads "This is a pool hall, not a bar. You are required to act accordingly". Usually the only sound you hear, is the clicking of balls.
