The area where it was held last year was terrible from a spectator perspective. I found out about it after I was upstairs for a few hours. I would have spent my whole day watching the event had I known sooner. It would be nice if there could be elevated bleachers. I would pay additional to watch straight pool if I could sit! Many of us 14.1 spectators (spectator at that skill level) are 50 and 60 somethings; tough on the lower back and feet to stand and or lean against a pool table for long periods of time.
It would be great, at least from my perspective, if the entire tournament could be straight pool over 9 ball. Or run two separate tournaments. The Birkbeck brothers in Horsham used to run some first class Black tie events in the early 90's. They always packed the house. There are still alot of 14.1 loyalists out there.

Jim I have been told by Allen that this year he wants to do some kind of seating for us as he knows the amount of spectators we get. What that entails im not really sure but it will be better than last year. The issue we had in years past is that we are only a small event in comparison to whats going on there. The first year we walked in the door with literally zero dollars to the prize pool and still managed to build it to 3k before the week was out.

This year things are definitely tight for us and we aren't really sure what the new venue is going to bring but we are hopeful.

What ability level is allowed to enter the amateur division at the 14.1 challenge.

There are many pro level players in the Open Amateur division in the main bar table 9 ball tournament.

I was thinking any player that finished in the top 32 of certain tournaments should be pro.
Also maybe no BCA Master or Grand Master level players, that list is on the BCA website.

What are your thoughts and how are you going to police this.

Thank you for your concerns.

Making it into the top 32 is a good reference point, and we will have copies of the pro player lists on an ipad on site at all times for any discrepancies etc.

We know alot of the players, and between us all we have enough knowledge that we can pretty closely gauge a players skill level.

Thanks

Hi Charlie & Steve --

Thank you for putting on the 2012 Challenge. It takes a lot of time and dedication, and the two of you -- and Heather -- have done a tremendous job and are big part of sustaining interest in straight pool.

I sent Charlie a pm about doing my bit to support your great event. Hope to be able to make it to the SBE and to see you there.

Take care,
Larry

Charlie,

Any info on the booth numbers? I was looking at the expo floorplan and was curious.

A buddy and I have played a couple games of straight pool, I'll come by and donate.

My high run has been 19 thus far, hopefully I can hit atleast 20 with my 5 tries.

Guys we aren't a hundred percent sure where we are going to be as Allen Hopkins is doing something different with us this year. If you look on the floor plan we will be on the same side as the artistic and three cushion arenas but in our own area. Don't worry im sure you will all hear my voice blaring over the microphone lol
